Favreau as a DT

Since I haven't had the opportunity to see Favreau move around as a lineman, I was wondering what everyone thought of his footwork as far as the switch from OL to DT is concerned. I know that a combination of power and agility is coveted for DT and that a certain "Damn the torpedoes" mentality is required. For those who have seen him or are familiar with the line position, what do you think about the switch and his prospects for adding quality contributions to the DL, with an emphasis on quality.

I don't know that the nose tackle plays with the same "damn the torpedoes" mentality others do in the 3-4. Seems to me a lot Chris Parham's value last year was occupying blockers so the defensive ends and linebackers could shoot through to make plays. Yes, Favreau will have to be able to make plays, but I don't know how much he and the other nose tackles will be asked to show off their speed.
Anyone on here play defensive line? Am I way off base here?

We we play a hybrid 3-4 front that utilizes all three types of DT on the nose to get the most out of our players and to allow for rotations. Favreau was recruited as an OL because of his balance of power and agility. He had the quickest feet of and used great leverage at the point of attack, but was undersized. He has gotten stronger and added to his frame.
Dennis McKnight loved that kids feet. The OL has improved in depth, young players are being developed, and the move to bring in Tackles and convert them is now in practice. This is an experiment, but if it works is a great way to utilize Favreau when their is a logjam at OL.

I don't know anything about the DL or coaching, but in his interview, I believe that Jordan said that Klemm told him that he had a D-lineman's mentality, whatever that is. I am assuming that is a good thing.

I'm not sure what it means either, but it sounds like he can get pi$$ed off and go after a QB or stop an RB. i'm ok with that.

You're right. A 3-4 nose tackle is supposed to be a "space eater" and occupy blockers/take up space so the linebackers behind him can fly around freely and make plays. It's rare that a nose tackle will show up in the stat sheet, but they can make or break a 3-4 defense.
I'm a big 49er fan and our nose tackle, Aubrayo Franklin, was one of the best in the NFL last year because of his ability to occupy blockers and clog the middle.

On the other end of the spectrum: Jay Ratliff of the Cowboys. He is more of a playmaker than a space eater.

Why are you guys questioning the coaches on their decisions? They know their players and their abilities better than any of us. I trust that they can make good decisions when it comes to utilizing their players for what ever position they choose to move them to.

The facts seem to be that we are OK on the OL and not OK at the NG spot.
Got any better ideas?

Which post was questioning the coaches on their decision? I just reread the whole thread and I do not see a single one.

I guess I was really refering to GeorgiaMustang's original post
..."what do you think about the switch and his prospects for adding quality contributions to the DL, with an emphasis on quality." The rest were trying to figure out how he would "fit" the DT model...if we could figure out what the DT's role is. It just struck me as questioning the move by the coaches.
