2/3s of 34,000 is 22,667. Is that really all that good?

Sure, for us it is. If, on the small chance we go 3-0, we sneak into the top 25 we could be looking at the first nationally relevent game for our school the since you-know-what. For us to put, say, 35,000 in Ford is pretty good.

Baby Steps.

Ponyte makes a good point, although my feeling is it will likely sell out.

My father took me to the '49 Notre Dame game. My memory is that a lot of folding chairs had been set up on the sidelines (field level - on the grass) near the tunnel and they were occupied by black employees of the University: grounds keepers, janitors, cooks I think. No one supported SMU with more enthusiasm that day. I'm hoping that some one else can confirm my memory. I suppose that some game photos might show that group. Perhaps also someone can recall other games where chairs were set up on the playing field. Maybe it was a regular practice once, although I'd not be surprised if there was more often segregated seatng in the stands.

As for Ford Stadium, when they sell "sitting room" on the slope and set up removable bleachers outside the South endzone, well, we will know for sure that SMU football is held in a light not seen for perhaps sixty years and more.

If we're 3-0 move it to Jerry World. :)

We most likely sell out if we've won at least one game. Going into that one 0-3 would be a *%#@# disaster. Course no matter the record, it will be at least 40% purple-shirted ones in seats.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I also believe that this is Parent's Weekend meaning a lot of walk-ups will buy tickets. I am confident there will be over 30k at the game.

I remember in the early-mid 80s when Wacker was coaching TCU there was a ton of excitement over there and they traveled very well to Dallas when we were a top 20 something team. There were almost 60,000 one night at Texas Stadium and I would say the crowd was about 60-40. In 86 we played them in front of well over 30K at the Cotton Bowl despite TCU not being well ranked. If we can win a couple before we play them this year, they may decide its worth the trip to see the game.

Can't believe our attendance average last year was actually 21,347. The SFA game operation sell-out obviously helped that. With TCU, Houston, and Tulsa on the home sched, we should at least meet that average.
