No disrespect to "the Comet", but, surely the play by play guy mis-spoke?? If not, these are wierd times for Pony Fball.... :hmm:

Not that weird. Comet has had a great career, plus one more year of playing time than did Jerry.

OK..I'll buy that, just "sounds weird" to me, sort of like Ramon & Jason W holding all those records, just "stats", I guess.....I like bowl games, conf. championships, etc...but hey, congrats to "the Comet".....

Comet is deserving of all our congratulations. He's been a terrific player and competitor at SMU, who easily could have "retired" after his foot injury. Incidentally, Jerry Levias was at the game yesterday, but Comet wasn't able to get over to talk to him (Levias was posing for pictures, signing autographs, etc.)

Yes Chris was a little disappointed he could not get to Jerry, wanted to meet him. I'm sure he appreciates the congrats. Also, I think Chris and Jerry both had four years of playing time. :thumbupcool:

LeVias had 3 years-but congrats to the Comet anyway-he had a season high 7 catches I believe.

I want the Comet to finish in style - with an OT touchdown to shock the little frogs. He's been too great to go out quietly, and he deserves a win in his last game. Thanks for a great career on the Hilltop, Comet.

That scenario wouldn't make a 1-11 mark acceptable, but it sure would be easier to take. Especially with Comet making the game-winning catch!

Please do not think that by mentioning that Comet had 4 years to Jerry's 3 belittles Chris's accomplishment. I do not think that Comet had anything close to Hixson or Livingston throwing to him in his career.

Congrats to Comet for a well deserved record.

You obviously never saw Jerry play. SMU has never had a reciever as good before or after him. Congrats to Chris. He is a very good player. I wish him well.

" Rookie of the Year as a wide receiver for the Houston Oilers in 1969." also "LeVias was called the most exciting player in the SWC since Doak Walker"

I saw Levias play and he was exciting. He could and did win games. I remember a run back for a TD on the last play of the game.

LeVias was my first and all time favorite Mustang-but let's face it he had a bunch of slow white guys chasin' him. :) What a shame that whole generations of potential heros never got LeVias' chance because as I learned you can't hate the color of the person who is your Hero. Thanks again to Hayden Fry and Jerry for teaching me that lesson. Its a shame Chris didn't get to talk to LeVias.

I played WITH Jerry. I did see him play. I do think he was one of if not the best ever at SMU. Records are broken every day, some by better players some by those that are not better, and some that play under different guidelines. Levias was great, but I also think that Comet has proven himself as a worthy competitor who, regardless of the reason has caught more passes than any receiver in SMU history and deserves to be recognized for his accomplishment.

Comet is a stud and deserves all the accolades he gets... and a great guy on and off the field.

Even on one lame leg, he's a more reliable receiver than the guy he replaced. Glad to see he's getting more playing time.
