*After a long summer of major discontent, SMU football coach June Jones met with his staff this week and told them he was committed to staying in Dallas for the term on his contract. I'm told this news was met with a lukewarm embrace.

WHO CARES is right, because Richie Whitt never covers anything. He says "this news was met with a lukewarm embrace."

Sounds dramatic, except he doesn't specify whether that "lukewarm" reaction was from the university's administration, the other coaches, the players, the athletic director, the board of trustees, Jones's family, the guy running a nearby drive-through window, the lady who hands out food samples at the grocery store .... without clarifying WHO reacted coolly to it, the statement has no value.

Of course, that can be said about most things RW writes.

Mr. Whitt's "report" should also be met with the lukewarm response it deserves.
