I was a little surprised (and pleased) that Davis was that heavy (or at least said he was) as well. However, it's fairly difficult to tell how heavy a kid is just by looking at them. SMU Director of Strength & Conditioning Mel de Laura has a different philosophy than Vic Villoria, and it has resulted in kids with more slender, natural-looking physiques.
For example, if you look at the video we shot of Kelly Turner the other day, he looks almost like a different person from his photo in the media guide (he's slimmed down in the face considerably, is missing the telltale lineman's beer gut). I was thinking the same thing about Marquis Frazier the other day -- sure, he's a big, powerful guy, but in street clothes, he looks pretty much like a regular guy. You'd never walk by him and think, "wow, that guy weighs 300 lbs." (which he does).
So while I was a little surprised Davis said he was to 270, I don't doubt he's in that range.
When people ask me how much I weigh, I tend to round down to 240. If I was playing football, I'd probably round up to 250.
