It wasn't long after SMU coach Dennis McKnight arrived on the Hilltop that he became a PonyFans favorite by instilling his brand of intensity and 'take no prisoners' attitude to a young offensive line. Not many people have a presence big enough to fill the void left by the tragic loss of legendary special teams coach Frank Gansz, but McKnight did just that with two of his former players now slated to contribute heavily to special teams in the NFL.

Catch up with Coach McKnight and hear his thoughts on the state of SMU football special teams and hear about some of the new faces PonyFans should look for this fall.

What a great interview. Other media types would have stopped at "who's going to return kicks this year?"

But getting him to break down why not all fast guys make good return specialists, and the differences between returning punts and kickoffs .... fascinating stuff.

This is the kind of stuff that separates PonyFans.com from the rest!

By the way, very interesting that he thinks Szymanski is NFL-caliber and maybe better than Morstead. Morstead surely has the stronger leg, but if Szymanski is consistent enough with field goals or directional punting, who knows?
