If you are Orsini, what options are you considering?

Hopefully, he is being proactive and is already trying to get a grasp on the situation.

If you are Orsini, what are you thinking?

One possibility if I were him--Go to TCU and make a strong pitch for inclusion of SMU over UH in the MWC, even if it takes concessions (money).

Others?

How about we go to our donors, get enough money together, buy the University of Houston, and then immediately disband their football team. Not only does it make us a more attractive candidate for MWC inclusion, but we very quickly become the prohibitive favorite to win CUSA West this year.

Yay for constructive opinion!

Didn't TCU encourage us to join CUSA right before the bolted?

unfortunately, i don't think we have the chips to dictate how anything goes. we can and should explore any and all possibilities, but at the end of the day i think we will have to be reactionary. Remember last time, word was that we approached northwestern about adding another small private to the big 10. now that was thinking outside the box...for sure.

The only thing in his sphere that I would ask Orisini to do would be to use his Notre Dame connections and our history of playing them, and get a few games with ND on the schedule. too late now that they have a series setup with UT, but I would have given them a two for one with our "home game" being played at Jerryworld, the alamodome, the cotton bowl or wherever ND wanted to play. that would have been a coup.

So, TCU could get us into the MWC and then bolt to CUSA and take our spot? I don't know what would be worse--that or CUSA less Houston.

At least we demolished Nevada, one of the new members of the MWC, in the Hawaii bowl. That couldn't hurt.

MWC will now invite Tulane and Rice, then TCU and Boise will join CUSA. Then CUSA west will form a new conference.

I know for a fact (via some inside sources) that we pushed very hard (ala the Baylor route) to use our political clout to get into the Big XII, as well as engage in discussions with the Pac (12?).

With all that said, we obviously won't get an invite into the Big XII because UT will be damned if there is another Texas team in the Big XII. So, I would like C-USA go grab those non-AQ schools that could beef up c-usa. I guess we'd just be stealing teams from MWC (TCU, AFA)

So how come we don't wind up being quoted in the papers as hypocritical whiny pansies lobbying for something they don't deserve...ala Baylor? Are we just better about keeping it off the front pages?

I think they were trying to be very hush hush about it. So in answer to your question, yes.

Stay put or get invited to join another conference - I don't think it matters......just continue to put competitive football team and wins games and get to bowl games.....the rest will take care of itself......hire a big-splash basketball coach and get basketball back to a competitive state.....we will be ok regardless. MWC is not that big of a leap over C-USA unless they get BCS status. We win and we will get publicity. SMU will never be considered for Big 12 or another BCS conference because we have too small of an alumni base. It is all about TV contracts and how many TV sets your school can deliver.
