yeah this is all over the free Houston Scout message board too. Realize that TCU has always preferred to keep the size of the MWC small-I'm not sure it means they want SMU either.

because as I've said they are and have been positioning themselves for the Jackpot at the end of the Rainbow. When the Big 12 explodes, schools like Tech(or OSU), Kansas(or Missouri), Kansas St, Iowa St. and Baylor are going to need a new home and you might have a realistic shot at a BCS bid(especially before losing Utah and BYU). Less mouths to feed too. Its only those idiots on the CUSA Message Board who constantly blather about adding unworthy teams to go to 12, 14, 16, 18 or 20. Why add teams that don't bring value

But what would you think if the ESPN "Super Conf" rumor were true and the best of MWC and CUSA formed and the winner of the Conf was in a bcs bowl. Would you have to get while the getting is good?

SMU will take whatever it can get. TCU has been more strategic in their planning. If TCU wanted to partner with SMU I'd prefer the smaller option of about 9 quality schools which would become the obvious destination for the Big 12 Leftovers-draw whatever conference you'd like using those parameters.

i generally agree that super conferences are non sense. The WAC 16 was doomed from Day1 because it had no plan or angle. The angle for the new super conf (with no dead weight) would have to be a clear path to AQ and the support of ESPN.

TCU is just as lost in all this mess as SMU. Both would be well served to use each other as combined assets rather than separate entities.

you could look at it that way, but are we just as lost in this mess as Rice is? If so, we have a problem. Even within the have-nots, there is a pecking order, and TCU is at the top. If we dont like it, we gotta change it.

We are not as lost as Rice. SMU has a 100M stadium, a 2M a year head coach, a Hawaii Bowl win, and the program is getting a TON of pub. Also, as little as Dallas supports SMU, Houston supports Rice even less. Rice is essentially a complete non factor in realignment scenerios b/c they don't deliver even a segment of the Houston market. At least SMU would give a conference "something" in Dallas.

yeah, i agree, and TCU is not as lost as we are.

THE TRUTH: TCU can pretty much decide this whole thing.

I'm glass half-full and you're glass half-empty. Here is the deal. You can throw away all the success TCU has enjoyed on the field. Its hard to do but you have to look at this from a financial viewpoint and the potential windfall involved. Here's what conferences see when they look at both SMU and TCU:
Small and private
Can't sell out their own stadiums
Can't deliver either Dallas or Fort Worth
Don't travel well
Don't draw large TV audiences
Its that simple. TCU, for all its posturing and pandering, is in virtually the same situation we are in with little to no ability to influence circumstances in their favor. Much like us, they are in a "wait and see" mode to be ready when and if the most favorable scenerio pops up they can take advantage of it. But any talk of a Big East or Big 12 invite is just pure foolishness.
