Just saw a great game. UT beat TT.
BTW SMU lost. The defense didn't show up. It looked like they quit. Never any enthusiasm. No fire. Nothing. Nada, zero, zip. If no one wants to play D why do the coaches keep them out there? A digusting defensive effort. I would rather watch a 3rd stringer who wants to play than watch what I saw today.
Phillips is the real deal. He is going to be a fine QB. The offensive coordinator finally came up with a game plan that was above the 3rd grade level. We actually hit 20 for the first time this year. Break out the champagne!
I thought that first FG was a fake but then I realized it wasn't. Set the tone for the game.
We are bad and half the team has quit.
11 down, one more to go.
Sorry to be negative. I realize everyone is in love with Bennett and Copeland. Hope I didn't hurt any feelings.

Them sorry suckas at UT listen to the talk radio jibba jabba too much - vincent young is nice, but Chance Mock is a very polished QB. He is much better than Mack Brown's lusty blonde from last year... if young is going to start getting all the snaps Mr. T sez lets round up Mock and any other ut players who were promised playing time and now find themselves a redshirt junior-only-able-to-get-on-the-field-for-the-4th Quarter-against-Baylor - and get those suckas UP ON THE HILLTOP

I disagree with your assessment of our defense. Sure, they got beat a few times. That's the price of playing on a defense - mistakes get magnified a million times over. If you're a WR and you drop a pass, the team smacks you on the helmet and tells you "make the play next time." But if you're a DB and you miss a tackle or blow an assignment, your mistake goes into the boxscore as a touchdown.
And of course you're right - our secondary fell asleep at the wheel a few times on that Wiggins guy -- there's no way to sugar-coat that. But for the most part, the defense played OK. Rice didn't put up a ton of yards until pretty late in the game. D.D. Lee and Jamey Harper got good penetration many times and disrupted the Rice option by getting into the backfield. Desmond Jones busted through the line a few times, once making a great one-armed tackle. Alvin Nnabuife was everywhere.
Was it a perfect game by the defense? Not even close. Those big plays cost us 17 points. Without them, this game was a toss-up. It's fine to be frustrated - we all are. But more often than not, the defense was decent yesterday. Not great, by any stretch, but at least decent.
And remember, all the guys who seemed to make plays are young and will be back. With the right additions around them, this defense will get better and better.

Rice had over 500 yards of offense. 500! Rice, not Oklahoma. 300 of those were rushing. I saw DBs and LBs chasing RBs and QBs from behind much of the day. No one was covering the pitch man. It was awful. The safeties were playing much to aggressively, hence the wide open TE. Some of the defensive debacle was coaching and some was lack of effort.

more than half of those yards directly resulted from missed assignment which may mean the player simply didn't do what the coach told him to do. May or may not be coaching but I'm confident thay you aren't in the position to make that call.

I'm with you Nacho,on Phillips. As for everyone being in love with Bennett, I think the man is trying to honor scholarships that were already there plus an attitude problem from some of the players that are pre-Bennett. I think the man (Bennett) has more talent than he has been allowed to use this year. Hey I enjoy the heck out of this board, me and grandpa live in Missouri and reading you guys is almost like watching a game. We are proud to be new Mustang Family and should be until 2008!!!

Nacho,
That was supposed to be a 'fake' and was never intended to be a field goal.
http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/colleges/smu/stories/111603dnsposmulede.cdbc5.html
excerpt from above Dallas Morning News article:
"On fourth down, SMU lined up for a 21-yard field goal to give its struggling offense, ranked last among the 117 I-A teams in the nation, a chance for some points. Bennett decided to fake the field goal. In film sessions, SMU coaches noticed a flaw in the middle of Rice's line of scrimmage that indicated the potential for a successful running play.
A low snap didn't allow holder Tate Wallis the opportunity to run up the middle and he fumbled the ball, losing 10 yards of field position in the process."
Now what did we have a better chance of? A 21 yard field goal or a friggin touchdown? That was another lousy questionaable call by Bennett; one of thousands this season.

I dont understand some of this. What do you mean about Bennett having more talent than he has been allowed to use? Who or what isnt allowing him to use it? I would have thought the head coach chooses to play whomever he wants in the game.
