Houston to MWC is heating up on a lot of boards...

This is worst case scenario for us, but prob. the most probable

All depends on what happens with a championship game between the MWC and the C-USA champion. If that happens, Houston can do whatever the hell they want. Plus it just made our road to the title game easier.

Nightmare scenario if true. Ugh.

hopefully, they see travel is too expensive and have to cling to the hope of play-in game between CUSA and MWC for auto-birth.

Shadow, if UH leaves, there will be no such deal. It means MWC is holding out to earn the AQ because this rumor deal didn't happen.

Also depends on what BYU does. If they add Houston and BYU leaves, they are at 11 and need one more to hold a championship game. But, if BYU leaves, does it still make sense to make the move? I would think so, but it definitely isn't the automatic yes it would have been even last week.

At first this scenario made me depressed, but upon further review, I'm not sure this is worst case scenario with or without the MWC/CUSA championship game.

The more decent teams the MWC has to knock each other off, the less likely they will have someone come out of that conference with a high enough ranking/clean enough record to go to BCS games. Boise State has been to multiple BCS games precisely because their league offered up so little competition. Houston gone would make it easier for us, now that we are improving, to follow the Boise State model. No, this is not ideal, but it is also not the end of the world.

Of course, if there is a crossover champion, then where Houston ends up is irrelevant.

I dont think BYU leaves...that conference with Houston can rival Big East and make a case for AQ

Sucks for us, as we are left holding the bag...

Personally, I think the MWC is just a crappy fit for Texas schools; especially now that Utah is out and BYU is either out or unhappily in (which means they're on the way out). C-USA West makes so much more sense for both SMU and UH for a variety of reasons. Frankly, it makes more sense for TCU as well. The only reason the MWC was a good bet was the prospect that Utah and BYU had enough juice to possibly get the conference AQ status at some point. I think the chances of that happening now for the MWC in its currrent form are just about nil.

As far as I'm concerned, who cares if UH goes to the MWC right now. One thing this past 20 years has taught me is that nothing is permanent in today's college football world. Conferences come and go, and schools move around with remarkable regularity. The main thing is for us to keep winning and building our program. We need to win championships and we need to win bowl games. We need to re-build the SMU brand in Dallas. If we can make it to a BCS bowl game, great. I don't really care what conference it's in. There will be more shifts in the future. . .you can bet on it. As long as we are well positioned when those shifts occur, then we'll be just fine.

Oh please. This thing is far from done. Again, it's interesting to see different people's appetites for risk. I personally am very happy for the opportunity to move up. And I believe it's gonna happen.

Losing Houston would be horrible, but if the combined MWC/CUSA BCS slot is true, it isn't a nightmare scenario.

Conference realignment has been so insanely unpredictable I fully expect something totally out of left field to happen with us still.

If merger happens, I don't really care who is in the conference.
