Chatter on TCU BoardSo I have now reached the level of dorkdom that I actually went over killerfrogs to see what they are saying.
1. So much vitrol going back and forth between TCU and BYU folks. It's kind of shocking really. There is going to be some serious lingering bad blood in the MWC no matter how this shakes out. 2. Many of the TCU folks are totally delusional about their chances of obtaining AQ status. They seem to think that all the MWC needs to do is poach UH and, viola, its AQ time, baby! What they totally fail to account for is that the bridge is now burned between BYU and the MWC. The parting of ways may not happen now, but its going to happen. Both BYU and the MWC are pissed at each other big-time. My guess is that BYU will either angle for the Big-12 or go independent in the next couple of years. At that point the AQ dream is dead for the MWC. . .UH or no UH. 3. Lots of discussion about BYU staying in the MWC with concessions like their own TV deal. If that happens, it of course means uneven revenue sharing and bad blood in the future. You can bet on it. How are TCU and Boise going to feel when they win the conference every year and play in BCS games, while BYU makes all the money? 4. They seem generally dismissive of the C-USA/MWC merger talk. Doesn't seem like the TCU folks think its a good deal. They would rather just take UH and (in their minds) kill C-USA. This appears to stem from the aforementioned delusions of AQ granduer. 5. I didn't even see a single mention of SMU in any of their threads. It's like we don't exist. It may not happen this year (in fact, it probably won't), but I'm really looking forward to the day when we beat them and the correct order of things reasserts itself. I'm hoping that day is not too far off. In any case, they don't seem to have any regard for what June and SMU are doing with the program on this side of the metroplex. I can't wait to surprise them.
Re: Chatter on TCU BoardWhen SMU removes its collective head from its own [deleted], and we get everybody working toward the same goal, this University is capable of accomplishing very impressive feats. The key is to make sure everybody remains focused on those goals.
Re: Chatter on TCU BoardTotally agree. I think we've made huge strides in that respect over the past 10 years. I have to give a lot of credit to Orsini. We may just have one of the best ADs around right now.
Re: Chatter on TCU BoardI also think that even if this immediate re-alignment doesn't improve our position, it is far from the "Armageddon" scenario. I think we still have ample time to sit at the poker table quietly, continue winning games, building facilities, re-building our brand, and drawing more fans, and when the chips fall again, we would be in a (hopefully) much stronger position for re-alignment. Of course I don't want this immediate reshuffling to make our climb back more difficult.
Re: Chatter on TCU Board
It is amazing you said that...you have been a staunch RGturner supporter... He cause more problems than results when it comes to athletics...
Re: Chatter on TCU BoardBYU is currently exploring putting non-football sports in the West Coast Conference.
Re: Chatter on TCU BoardBYU leaving would be a big boost to our cause...but it seems that we have been irrelevant to long on the national landscape..
Re: Chatter on TCU Board
Totally agree. It is also one of my pet theories that the rise of TCU football was in direct proportion to the fall of SMU. When we once again whip TCU in recruiting as we did from the early 60s to the mid 80s, TCU will become a bit player. Putting too much stock in TCU and what they add to a conference is a fool's paradise.
Re: Chatter on TCU Board
I'm not necessarily a staunch supporter of Turner's, I'm just a fan of transparency, fact gathering, measured response, and trying to get all the information possible and making an informed decision that's in the best interest of the school. I concede and admit that with this little fiasco last month a lot went wrong and SMU seems to want to do very little to help itself in the court of public opinion, but I'm really not a fan of the incredibly volatile burn down Dallas Hall brigade. A good portion of our fans, not you, seem to have this incredible inability to look farther into the future than the tip of their own nose, and it's pretty stunning. I want Turner happy, I want Jones happy, I want Klemm happy, I want a good academic profile, I want an indoor practice facility, I want BCS inclusion, I want our stadium full. Lots of wants on my part as a fan. I'm hoping this summer was a needed hiccup on our path to greater harmony and success, one that happens when the pendulum swings from one extreme back toward a nice balance.
Re: Chatter on TCU BoardPrediction - TCU will be a member of the Big East before the end of next week.
Re: Chatter on TCU Boardcongrats...

Respectfully, I don't agree. Let's look at UH. Prior to 2006, they were about as irrelevant as it comes. They've had a few good seasons since then. But they play in a craphole stadium, have almost no local support, have not finished a season in the top-25 since Andre Ware played there 20+ years ago, and have not played in a major bowl game in about as long. Yet now UH is being viewed by some as being the lynchpin that can put the MWC over the AQ hurdle and at the same time kill off C-USA and SMU football forever. I'm sorry, but if UH is now "relevant" with that thin of a resume, then it really doesn't matter how long you've been down. The point is, SMU is becoming relevant again and we are going to be very relevant in the years ahead. The past is what's irrelevant. It's all about where you are today and how you project into the future. SMU has positioned itself well for that litmus test. We're not there yet, but its happening.
