"Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference released statements simultaneously Friday acknowledging the leagues have discussed ways to creatively work together in the wake of further shifts taking place outside the six Bowl Championship Series conferences.

Although the C-USA release cautioned it was "premature to suggest anything else at this point," indications are the momentum of the discussions between the leagues is tracking toward some form of a merger that could result in one mega-conference."
