SMU Football Practices To Remain Open To Media & High School Coaches

DALLAS - Beginning Monday, Aug. 23, SMU Football practices will be open to the media and high school coaches only for the remainder of the 2010 season.

The parents and immediate family of football student-athletes will be welcomed at “Family Day” practices, held the day before games, usually Fridays.

As the Mustang prep for their season opener at Texas Tech on Sept. 5, the sessions will no longer be open to the general public.

“We greatly appreciate the fans’ support and interest,” said SMU Head Coach June Jones. “I hope that they can respect our need to keep distractions at a minimum, as we practice and prepare for what we are hoping will be a very successful season.”

Media wishing to attend are asked to contact Brad Sutton in the SMU Athletic Public Relations Office at (214) 768-2883 or via e-mail at [email protected] to confirm space, and high school coaches can contact SMU's Director of High School Relations, Tam Hollingshead at 214-768-1631 to arrange for field access.

After facing Tech, SMU will open Conference USA play at home on Sept. 11 against UAB. The Mustangs will then look to avenge an overtime loss from 2009 when Pac-10 member Washington State comes to Dallas on Sept. 18 for a CBS College-televised meeting. ESPN will come to Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Friday, Sept. 24, when rival TCU crosses the Metroplex for the annual State Farm Battle For The Iron Skillet in a primetime, nationally-televised matchup. After a game at Rice, Tulsa then comes to Dallas for an Oct. 9 meeting with the Mustangs before SMU travels to Navy on Oct. 16. After sharing the 2009 C-USA Western Division Championship, SMU and Houston will battle it out on the gridiron on Oct. 23 in Dallas in another CBS College-televised game, and SMU will host Marshall in its regular-season home finale on Nov. 20.

Season tickets for the 2010 season start at as little as $72, and can be purchased through SMU Ticket Sales representatives at 214-768-4263 or by logging on to SMUMustangs.com.

Tech closed their practices to the media and the public so no info would get out. The media is only allowed access the last 20 minutes of practice,
