Heisman Trophy

Just wondering: how is it that Texas Tech's QB B.J. Symons isn't even in consideration for the Heisman Trophy? It looks like he's about to break the record set by Heisman Trophy winner Ty Detmer of BYU. Will someone please explain to me how it is that Symons can challenge - and probably beat - the record of a former and recent Heisman winner and not even be in the running. I realize that TT's overall record this season probably has a lot to do with the consideration, though.

My opinion is that people view it as the system not the player.

65 - great point.

to me & i think many others is that the heisman is nothing more than a popularity trophy...credibility is truly lacking....

i think college fb should have been putting more emphasis for a long time in the position trophies like the 'doak walker award' than the silly heisman, besides, how can u say there is a 'best player' in college football in any particular season when u have 23 different positions including kickers? (or whatever the number of positions?)

oh well - that's politics in a politically correct world!

The sad part is that you could make that same statement for Andre Ware and Ty Detmer. They were both products of the system and they both won Heisman Trophies. Heck, you could say that about almost any offensive player who's won the award within the past couple of decads.

How could you not say that about EVERY player who has won anything? If the system isn't designed for you to get hte ball or to be productive... You will not put up Heisman stats...

Well, I doubt you could really say that bout the Lou Groza Award winner. heh FYI, that's the award for the best kicker.

Your obscure football knowledge is impressive. Almost as impressive as your avatar, or the beer thing.... but not quite as impressive as spaz's ability to turn every thread into a discussion of hte band.

I think the glorious pro careers Ware and Detmer put together back up your claim.

That's true, but there have been a lot of Heisman winners who laid an egg in the pros: Ware, Detmer, Danny Wuerffel, Desmond Howard, and my personal favorite - Gino Toretta!
