The idea of BYU independence intiated by WAC and Cougars deferred at first. WAC plans more ambitious than imagined according to sources:

Perhaps this week BYU next steps and intentions will be better known?

Reports continue to report that BYU remains committed to determining if independence is possible, either WAC or WCC, a faith-based conference.

so many different scenarios could play out over the next few years, but the bottom line in all of this is that BYU has probably realized they are NOT going to get invited to the BCS table, so they need to maximize their football revenues the best way they can.

their decision may well impact whether SMU and TCU will some day play again as conference mates

this thing is far from over and as everyone knows, SMU just needs to improve it's football and bball programs and fill Ford and Moody if we ever again want to be relevant

This is a huge point....and maybe why MWC is reluctant to take CUSA Houston

WAC insiders believe that officials at Conference USA tipped off MWC commissioner Craig Thompson that The Project was unfolding, tips that sent Thompson scurrying to Philadelphia to meet with television executives and that eventually led to the commissioner hastily inviting Nevada and Fresno State to the MWC to scuttle the plan.
