Alright, Let's talk some footballHey SMU fans, Red Raider fan here just wanting to talk some football before our opening game this w/e.
I have kind of hanging around, just reading some posts, but just now registered so I could talk about the game this w/e. Should be an exciting one, for many different reasons. Have any questions about what to expect from Tech, and our new coaches...just ask. How do you guys see the game turning out? What's your biggest concern about this game? What area(s) are you the most confidant about? Anything else you would like to discuss...I'm open. Feels good to be talking about football again, and this offseason has seemed longer for some reason. maybe it was all the drama that went on, who knows? Let's just hope it's an injury-free Sunday, no one gets seriously injured.
Re: Alright, Let's talk some footballI am ready. College football is my favorite by far. Do Tech students still throw tortillas?

Re: Alright, Let's talk some footballHow has Tuberville been received in Lubbock? Are people still sour in some circles about losing Leach, or are they excited about having a proven SEC winner at the helm?
Those who complain about a problem are simply wasting time they could use to fix it.
Potential is nothing, performance is everything.
Re: Alright, Let's talk some footballwhen your name is finally a defense... what are your expectations for tech defense week 1?
Any talk about concerns from tech on the fresh O-line?
Re: Alright, Let's talk some footballWill you drink you're beer with me if I wear red?
Re: Alright, Let's talk some footballMost of us are excited about this year. We will be better. Will we beat TTU? We are more hopeful now than in decades.
We have some key players to replace (receiver, inside LB, Corners). We think our O line and D line are impoved and our LBs are solid. We feel our QB will be better as well. We have some questions about who will be our main RB. Our biggest issue is we don't have enough solid players yet. We are still young and will need a few Freshman to step up. No doubt there is the potential for a big team (like TTU) to cause us problems. Big running teams have caused us trouble in the past cause we are relatively small and without depth on D. There will be an unknown for us with Tuberville and new offensive/ defensive coordinators. Makes guessing a more important factor. TTU will have to face a much improved JJ offense. The Big 12-2 hasn’t seen that type of offense so there is potential to cause the TTU defense trouble. Last edited by ponyte on Mon Aug 30, 2010 4:19 pm, edited 1 time in total.

I am really starting to wonder about you ![]()
Re: Alright, Let's talk some football
For the most part, Tubs has been received very, very well. Especially by the players, as I think they ALL pretty much thought a change needed to be made. I think that's one reason why Adam James didn't transfer, and is still on the team (and you never heard a bad word mentioned about him by the current players). The only people that aren't happy, are the Team Leachers, and they are insanely nuts, and I really don't think are real fans of Texas Tech football. Probably more Aggy, than anything else. Tubs is about as smooth of a talker as they come, and he knows how to win over a crowd. He has been to more Alumni speaking functions in 7-8 months, than Leach had been to in 10 years. Leach never earned his outside income, and Tubs has done more than that. He has totally transformed things in his first several months, and it will be good for recruiting. Tubs has put together ONE HECK of a coaching staff, and they have gotten these guys ready. He is definitely a change, and I think a very good change.

I am really starting to wonder about you After that last video post you made about the monkey and the frog. I... I… I don’t think it get you.
Re: Alright, Let's talk some football
I don't really expect all that much from the defense (as far as rankings go). What I do expect, and think we will see, is some big plays made...both by the other teams offense, and by our defense. We will press the WR, play man, zone, and every other coverage known to man. We will be very, very aggressive, and in turn will give up big plays, but also create some, too. My biggest concern is our CB's. We have some talent there, but it's all YOUNG talent. We will be playing some true Soph's, and also some True Freshman. As far as the OL, we will be fine. I wouldn't exactly call it a fresh O Line, as many of the people have rotated in and out. They aren't exactly inexperienced. They just weren't considered starters. We will have a True Freshman in the rotation, though, but he went through spring, so he's been around some.

No, because I live in Chicago, but if I was at the game, then I would buy the beers for you! ![]()

Nice!
Re: Alright, Let's talk some football
I will say we all really don't know what to expect, as practices were closed this fall. I wouldn't be calling Tech a "Big Running Team" just yet. Tubs is a smart man, and knows his best bet is to go with what we have, and that's one reason he's hired Neal Brown to run our Spread. Tubs has already said he will take what the defense gives him, but would shoot for a 60/40 pass/run ratio. He has also said if teams allow us to pass, that we would pass 100% of the time. IMO, too much has been made about the Tubs/Franklin thing, and makes for much better media than anything else, as that situation at AU has NOTHING to do with what has transpired at Tech. The situations are totally different, and not even comparable, TBH.
