Frogs Non-Statement

From TCU (I actually feel for them. We have both been on the wrong side of things.)

Sept. 1, 2010

BYU announced today its decision to go independent in football and the West Coast Conference for all other sports, which was based upon what they deemed to be an appropriate path for their university. Although there had been much uncertainty surrounding this potential move, what remains clear is that this move will not affect TCU's commitment to excellence in our athletics program.

TCU is in a position of strength. Today's developments do not affect what happens to us. As we have always done, we will continue to look after TCU's best interests.

At TCU, our goal is to build the best athletics program we can. This means investing in new facilities, playing top-ranked teams and recruiting outstanding student-athletes. In fact, our investment is paying off: we have award-winning coaches, championship teams and new facilities.

There is no doubt that over time TCU has made a major impact in intercollegiate athletics. However, like all other colleges, we are building our program in an environment that can be unpredictable from time-to-time.

Even with this challenge we are certain of one thing: TCU will continue strategically seeking opportunities to build the best athletics program possible to benefit our students, our fans and our community.

Go Frogs!

Christopher M. Del Conte
Director of Intercollegiate Athletics

That's not a non-statement at all. That's a big "screw you, we're looking for a way out" to the MWC.

-The MWC is never mentioned
-"we will continue to look after TCU's best interests"
-"TCU will continue strategically seeking opportunities"
-"this move will not affect TCU's commitment to excellence in our athletics program" (i.e. we are committed only to us - we are not committed to rebuilding the MWC)

I agree. TCU doesn't want to be in a conference with no competition. They know they'll never make it to the big game that way.

And some SMU fans think the Big East is going to ask to join CUSA. Neither is necessarily based on reality.
