Whether it's necessary or not, most of his articles in the DMN over the last few weeks have included a comment about how SMU hasn't won a game, is one of two teams without a win, etc. To his (or maybe his editor's) credit, his story today focused on the methodical-but-significant improvement Chris Phillips has made since taking over the offense. Well worth the read.

The Dallas Morning News is not supposed to be a propaganda machine for SMU.
And before any of you babies start crying about how it is for Texas, shut up.
Because it's not.
Watkins HAS to include SMU's record in any story he writes about them. To omit it would be a joke.

Little sensitive about the Austin Morning News? There's more UT coverage up there than there is in the "other" Austin paper (American-Statesman).

I read all his stories that are linked up on PonyFans.com, and I think he does a great job. I disagree that he would have to include comments about the record, etc., when it's a piece about an individual player's progress, etc., but when it's called for, it's there. In my opinion, he's done a terrific job covering the Ponies.

You write what your audience wants. If more readers wanted to hear read about SMU than UT, that's the way it would be. No business is going to sacrifice revenue just to make the few fans of a 0-11 team happy.
