Don't they technically have to cut all players prior to putting anyone on the practice squad? I'm thinking these guys may have just been players 54 and 55, and that they are 1 and 2 on the practice squad. There's still hope.

yep, that's my understanding. they have to clear 24 hrs on waivers before being placed on the practice squad. but, of course, another team could pick them up in that interval.
