SMU Postgame Notes – September 5, 2010

RECORDS

Darryl Fields had a 92-yard kickoff return, which ties for the 10th-longest in SMU history. He had 157 KOR yards on four returns. That is ninth for KOR yards in a game at SMU.

Margus Hunt’s blocked FG in the second quarter was the eighth of his career. That ties the SMU record (Chad Patton 1990-93) and ties for ninth in NCAA history for combined blocked kicks.

Matt Szymanski hit a career-best and SMU record 61-yard FG with 12:00 left in the fourth quarter


TEAM NOTES

SMU Captains for today: Kelvin Beachum (70), Ryan Moczygemba (39), Pete Fleps (52), Chris Butler (1), Chris Banjo (23)

SMU blocked two FGs (blocked nine FGs/PATs last season). Kevin Grenier and Margus Hunt each had one. It was Grenier’s first, giving SMU six different players on this year’s roster with at least one blocked kick.


INDIVIDUAL NOTES

Kelvin Beachum (OL) – started his 26th consecutive game at offensive LT

Cole Beasley (WR) - Tied his career-high with two TD catches. He now has eight for his career

Ja’Gared Davis (LB) - Had a sack, his first of the season and third of his career

Kyle Padron (QB)
- Had two TD passes, both to Cole Beasley. He now has 12 for his career
- It marked his fifth career multi-TD game in seven starts

Ryan Smith (SS) – Had a career-best eight tackles

Matt Szymanski (K/P)
- Hit a career-best and SMU record 61-yard FG with 12:00 left in the fourth quarter
- Was 2-for-2 on FGs and 3-for-3 on PATs.
- His 49.3 punt average was the second-highest of his career (50.3 vs. Rice last season)

What's the all-time NCAA record?
