More Fields?

I was completely on board with Line and to a lesser extent Butler in the first game for blocking reasons, but now that we are past the bigger D, can we see more Fields? I think he deserves a chance to show what he can do from the start of a game. The return really showed his lack of Freshman jitters.
While Line is good at what he does (4 yards and a cloud of dust), in this offense we need a home run threat to keep the D from dropping LB's into coverage. I have to go back and watch the game again, but it appeared Padron was unable to complete passes to the middle of the field which is so key in this offense. The crossing patterns allow us to get YAC and I saw none of that yesterday.

Line averaged 6 yds per carry and was very effective; I agree we need to supplement him with a runner who can break the long one and that may well be Fields (as he showed on the kick return)
All in all, considering how poorly we played in the 1st half, the turnovers and the poorly thrown deep balls, I was encouraged by what I saw. This team is close to being really good.

Like to see Fields more but only when he knows the plays and assignments.

The post game show on the ticket, J.J. said something like Shawnbry would have been
good to have in the game because of his speed.

I also liked how Fields wasn't afraid of contact. If I remember correctly, he dished out a pretty good hit at the end of one of his returns.
I know one of the concerns (which I shared) was his ability to go from small time HS football to D-1. I think he had a pretty good debut yesterday. 150+ all purpose yards in his first game against a Big 12 team. If he can catch, he'll be dangerous in the passing game.

Bring Fields along slowly, he is a superback in training.
Line's field vision and footwork has significantly improved since last year. He made a few defenders miss in heavy traffic at the line of scrimmage, got vertical and his ypc was great. Line + a scat back would be great for now as a change of pace.

It was awesome to see him cut through the coverage on that return. A buddy of mine was over at our place watching the game with us. I told him that Fields was a speedster, so it will be great to watch him progress over the next couple seasons. He then proved my point with that run back.
Couldn't agree more with you guys on the change of pace vs. Line. Loved what Line showed yesterday, too.

I thought line was the MVP...6 ypc, and basically gutted the tough yards for the offense...

One of the ESPN guys said that he was told Fields would not see a lot of action until he became a much better pass blocker. Blocking is probably something he never did in HS so it will take some time to learn a new skill especially at the college level.

I was very impressed with Line yesterday. Definitely looked better than I thought he was. Fields will be the guy one day, just not yet.
