Early line has SMU -12.5 over UAB

I found this on a UAB forum. They feel like it's too wide of a margin because they feel like they will run all over us. I personally disagree. I think our Linebackers will have something different to say. I'd love to see a comfortable 2-3 TD victory. What do y'all think? Is this line too small? Too big? About right?

a little surprised by this. hope we can cover that kind of margin. I really don't want a nail biter but I'm afraid it probably will be. Those guys were stung in their opener, remember last year and have had several extra days to prepare. I will be pleased with a 1 pt victory at this point

UAB had over 400 yards total offense. Their QB ran for 214 yards and had 3 rushing TDs. The next best rusher for UAB ran for 69 yards.

UAB allowed over 300 yards total offense and 254 passing yards. Both teams had 1 interception and no fumbles.

UAB's QB was 9-19 with one int passing.

UAB allowed one FAU rusher to gain 109 yards on the ground.

UAB beat this FAU team last Nov 56-29 or so.

Post game press conference, UAB's coach felt the D did well except for allowing 4 big plays.
UAB will have had 9 days to prepare for SMU by Saturday.

Are we a 11-13 point favorite? Hard to really tell.

But we are certainly better than last year. We are playing at home. We have big play capabilities. We have beaten this team 3-0. Not one player on this team has ever lost to UAB, even in lean years. We match up better up front with htis team than TTU.

If last season is any indication:
Fla Atl was #112 Rushing D, and #112 Total D. That is vs. UAB which had the #7 Rushing Offense and #22 Total Offense. It should have been strength vs. weakness for a bunch of points even without Joe Webb.
On the other side, Fla Atl was #15 in total offense and #18 in pass offense vs. UAB's #111 in Pass Eff. defense and #114 in total D. Again strength vs. weakness for a bunch of points.

Perhaps UAB did have an offensive dropoff.

Now SMU had the #88 Rush D and #84 Total D. Should hold up better than Fla Atl. Also, SMU had the #15 Pass O and #51 Ttl O. Should do well vs. UAB's D.

I say 35-21 SMU over UAB

I think Jeff Sagarin's ratings have SMU 13.24 better than UAB.
Then I think you have to add points for home field advantage where my Phil Steele magazine has as 2.5 for SMU.

yeah, but Sagarin in early weeks is meaningless from that perspective, because it factors in the end of last season. He pretty much says as much. I forgot which week it was last year, but SMU jumped up several spots one week just because he quit using our results from the end of the last season.
