Lettermen's reunion
Posted: Fri Sep 10, 2010 9:33 pmTonight was the Lettermen's reunion. A lot of Pony greats were there. Not just football but all sports, including baseball.
This is Steve Endicott. He was my position coach my first year and later the offensive coordinator. I lobbied for him to be our head coach after Meyer left. Had he been, we would not have had the DP and we would be one of the best teams in the land. He called (on Meyer's recommendation) the famous Pony Express play against Texas in 1980.
He may be the single best recruiter in college football at that time and was certainly a player's coach.
Once, he was a 3 sport All-State in Oregon. He played in the all star game for 3 sports (football, basketball & Baseball). He was the MVP in two of the three.
He was a fabulous recruiter and a real student and teacher of the game
On a separate note, there were also several folks there with some close ties to the current football team. They were very optimistic about our chances against UAB.
