Where has the Run and Shoot Gone?

The Biggest concern about last nite's game is how few times Padron was able to quickly make his reads and deliver the ball. The Inside Receivers are not getting open. None of the receivers are working hard enough after the first read. Emanuel Sanders never stopped working to get open-I'd give SMU's receivers very low grades and I focused on them all nite long. If they are that tired they need to get substitutes in to give them a breather. I bet the most frustrating thing about SMU so far to Jones is his inability to install his own offense in the third year of his tenure.

They lost a day of practice this week that would have been helpful in correcting whatever the receivers are not doing right that is keeping them from getting open.
A few of them stopped on their routes last night at times where it cost us big plays.

they are making their initial reads and then running the base route without adjusting. Aldrick is a mess, he is just trying to hard and beating himself..

Agreed on the passing game. I don't know if it's the receivers or the QB, although when I focus on Al I'm not impressed with his effort in what is essentially a contract year for him, but if run correctly the QB should have multiple options. There should be no excuse, when run correctly this offense gets people open.

I think that after watching film tomorrow that they will make the WR corrections this coming week against WSU and will be primed for TCU.

Not only that, but it seems in many cases, the receivers are making the wrong reads to begin with. I noted during the game last night several occasions where it appeared that there was a gap in the defense, only to have the receivers run into the coverage.
Ditto on not terribly impressed with Al so far.

Still waiting for the r & s to click. No way wed put up 36 vs usc like Hawaii did. Who'd have thought tom masons 3-4 would give us more upside than jj's r&s

Anyone have an idea what the problem is? Is it lack of practice? Lack of talent/brains? QB problem?
All these WR's have had a year or more in the system, they should know what they are doing by now.
Was Sanders just that good?

What really gets me is that we can't seem to get Johnson the ball in a seam down the middle. The kid has the ability to make moves in space that will result in big plays-just not there right now. He's getting the ball on screens and undeneath in the first level but we aren't really attacking the middle of the field at the 2nd and 3rd level. Not many long balls either.

I'm with Stallion, the WRs receive very low grades from me. I questioned the recievers inability to get separation from the Tech game despite not being able to see it all on TV but after watching them in this one its no wonder Padron is dancing back there. I don't know how to remedy the situation but we need to if we want this offense to get moving. I thought UAB was in a lot of nickel so there were more DBs back there...

Seems like we haven't even tried to go deep more than a couple times. Do you think this is playcalling or WRs just not getting open? Hard to believe AR couldn't blaze past some of the UAB defenders once or twice last game.

as an uneducated, but enthusiastic, fan, I am relying only on what little I can glean from JJ's comments in his post-game interview. it seems the state of the passing game is a function of KPs development. JJ said that there were passes to be made, and that KP will see that when he reviews the film. He also said that big plays were available regardless of the coverage that was presented, as he has confronted similar coverage in the past (I took that to mean that the system is designed to work well, if executed correctly).
He obviously is pleased that KP is able to run well, when he cannot find open receivers, instead of forcing passes that may be picked. but, none of his comments seem to even suggest that the receivers are the core of the problem (even though I know there have been some drops, etc.).
plus...... since I am a channelsurfing guy, I don't have the benefit that many of you have, who are sitting in the stands and can closely scrutinize the play of each of the receivers on every play; so, I can't analyze any of that except, again, to rely on what I read into JJ's comments.
(although, I do recall seeing that one pass Al dropped after it hit his hands, with the defender draped over him.....and thinking....Emmanuel would have made that catch).
anyway, to me, KP's development seems to be the hurdle needed to get over, and JJ is not too worried, saying that he's seen it before and KP just has to 'work through it'. that's good enough for me. I'll just keep holding my breath until he returns to Hawaii bowl form and then it'll be even more fun. in the meantime, if they keep winning, hey, I'll take it.
