Insider question

I noticed last night after one of our late in the game punts (it was a relatively short punt due to a low snap and heavy rush) that Jones went to Symanski and seemed to be lecturing him pretty hard. The conversation seemed to be a little angry and Symanski did not seem very happy after it was over. That is out of normal personality for Jones and I did not see anything that Matt did to warrant a berating. Like I said, the snap was low (first low one I have seen this year btw) and they were rushing very heavy and coming close on each punt so I cannot imagine what would have upset Jones so much.
Anyone with inside information, I would appreciate if you could elaborate. If not known, perhaps it could be asked at the luncheon and then you can reply in some kind of coded message.

maybe he was taking too long to get the punts off? - 2 or 3 times they came very close to blocks

Maybe but after Matt had to scoop the ball off the ground just to get the kick off would not have been the best time to talk about that. But maybe that is all it was. Or maybe Jones could not see the bad snap from where he was.

My son and Matt are good friends. Matt is very intense about his kicking, he is harder on himself than anyone could be.

My point is that I saw nothing other than a good play by Matt to get the ball and get it off and then Jones seemed uncharacteristically upset. I wonder if Matt might have gotten into a jawing match with a UAB player or something.
If you hear anything about it I would be interested Mexmustang. It is no big deal but I am curious.

UAB came after the punter every time. UAB must have felt that there was an opportunity to block a kick. Timing is huge in punting. The snap usally gets bac tot he punter in well under a second. The punter then has to get the ball off very quickly to avoid a block.
Now when kicking, the longer one has to punt, usually the higher and longer the punt. And the chance to block it.
Jones may be concerned about the timing to get a punt off. Just a guess but UAB came [deleted] every punt. A team doesn't do that unless they feel they saw something on film that gives them confidence to block a kick.
