"Cornerback Bryan McCann, who was cut by the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday, has agreed to sign with the Cowboys practice squad. "

Glad he made somewhere and that it is back here.
With only 3 CBs (is that right?), he might have a decent chance of moving to the 53 man roster.

So what was up with that Baltimore thing. Just a negotiating tactic with the player they wanted on the roster? Brian did not get the lingo fast enough?
Wierd.

They may have just wanted a closer look at Bryan, but had to sign him to the 53 man roster to get him away from Dallas. Once there, they may have thought "Eh, good PS material", but lost out to the 'Boys again.

I hear they wanted to use him as a kick/punt returner. But when they signed Prince Miller, after he was cut by New England, they thought he would be better at the job. So Bryan became expendable.

With Newman being prone to injuries, I agree. He definitely has a chance. I still don't know what Wade was thinking by only having 3 CBs.

Mr. Bryan McCann: "LOL I'm glad to be BACK in Dallas playing for the Cowboys. This is my real home, Let's go!"

What is the rule on the 53-man thing? I understand by picking him up off of waivers Baltimore had to put him on the roster, but for how long. A post on another thread mentioned something about it counting against their 53-man for a minimum of 3 weeks. Is that the case? Does this mean they have to pay him at least league minimum for the 3 weeks? If so, swapping 1 week of PS pay for 3 weeks of NFL pay turned out to be a good deal for him.

Found this explanation.
http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2010/8/24/1648313/nfl-practice-squad-explained-rulesNFL practice squad players are paid $5,200 a week minimum but teams may choose to pay them more if they'd like. This doesn't usually happen. The players will also get small signing bonuses, usually in the area of a couple thousand bucks.
NFL Practice Squad Rules
There are some important things to know about practice squad players during the NFL regular season so I'm just going to list them:
Practice squad players are always free agents, meaning any NFL team can sign them away from another team. The catch with this? A team can't sign a player one week before they play that team and the team that signs a practice squad player must count that player against their 53-man active roster for at least three weeks, bye weeks included. This is even if the player is released after one week - they still count as a spot on the roster.
Players that are promoted internally from the practice squad to the active roster must remain there for three weeks and get paid the minimum salary for their status (rookie or veteran). If they are let go for some reason before the three weeks are up, they are still paid for those three full weeks.

as I understood, if McCann made the 53 man roster, then they have to pay him a full-year minimum salary. so he would be pulling down a nice chunk in addition to the $5,000 per week he can get with the Cowboys.
does anyone know if that's correct, of if Baltimore only has to pay him a pro-rated amount of the full minimum rookie salary?

The answer is in the post above yours.

Okay...maybe not. He didn't actually go from a practice squad to the 53 man roster, but surely there was something in his contract about that subject.
