Bad, bad, bad, bad idea.
Schools that don't have large, devoted fan bases should never call for "Red Outs" or "White Outs" or any other color in the double rainbows.
It just sets us up to fail. Hopefully no one at ESPN gets wind of this and comments on-air about all the purple in the stands during our supposed "Red Out."
If you want to encourage everyone to wear red, to clash with TCU's purple, fine. But don't call for a "Red Out" when you know the stands will be filled with the opponent's fans.

If most of us don't wear red then we look even weaker of attendence.

As someone who organized red-outs for the basketball games against Memphis the last 3 years, I must warn you it is incredibly hard to pull off (and I was trying to do it for a crowd of >8k, much less 35k).

SMU fans will wear what they want to wear...don't try this...
SMU should give away a ton of red towels to waive...

You can't have a red out or any other out when half of the people will be wearing purple.

only way to do this is to give out red t-shirts or towels at the gate. How do you communicate with people (other than students) to wear red? Casual fans will be coming to this game, and would have no knowledge of the red out.
CofC or SMU needs to PONY UP and make the red t-shirts and give them out for free at the gates. Then you will have a red out. heck, even towels would work.
We need a good fan showing on ESPN.

By no means is anyone hating on your idea. It is a great idea in principle, there are just a lot of things you must do to effectively pull it off like: talk to the Athletic Dept., talk with the SMU coaches (i.e. ReineBold to publicize it on his facebook), tell the Daily Campus to write an article about it, hell even e-mail Kate. Simply stating it on Ponyfans will alert the small few who actively read the site, but the public-at-large will be unaware of it.

I thought I heard something about it over the sound system Saturday.

I'm going to wear red. But the school can't say it is a red out. Half the stadium will be in purple. Just points out that we are minor leagues, wouldn't be surprised if ESPN points it out that we tried to have a red out....

So 6,000 people heard about it?
