If we win...

what will be the TCU institutional reaction. The last time we beat TCU we wrecked a perfect season and possibly a BSC birth (I know that is debatable because of how the BSC was set up back then). However, I believe that they have an excellent chance of not losing again this year. So a loss Friday could cost them another perfect season and another BSC birth. The financial impact of appearing in a BSC bowl (not only payout but exposure) is huge. If somehow we pull a win off on Friday it will be crushing not only to TCU fans, but could cost the university dearly if they win out. I know the home and home series between SMU/TCU is a fairly good draw in Ft. Worthless, but that is peanuts compared to a BCS birth. At what point to they pull a UT on us and decide that it is just not worth playing us anymore. As we continue to improve, this game has to look less and less attractive to TCU.

Their reaction will be that circumstances (playing on a short week, on the road, Friday night game) threw off their equilibrium and allowed us to win. It really won't matter what sort of justification they make though. A loss to SMU will be seen on the national level as a laughing stock and they won't be on the radar for the rest of the season.

When - not if - we win (I know I am being inconsistent here). Gary Patterson has only one option. He needs to hold his head high and take it on the chin for the next week until the story passes on the National news. If he does anything else he will look like a whiner. I wouldn't envy being in that position because the difference in Bowl $$$s from BCS to whatever would be painful. On the plus side SMU will get a lot of National love, that would soften the blow a little for Gary.
TCU won't bail on SMU. The rivalry has been going on too long. It is too good of a fund raising opportunity for them and it is a cheap game - a 35 mile bus trip. Alumni (from both sides) are interested in this game. TCU really needs SMU to improve and become ranked like UH. It increases their strength of schedule (we are a couple of years away from worrying about that). From a fund raising perspective alumni are more likely to give when you beat an arch rival in a competitive game - losing a trap game doesn't bring in alumni $$$s.

TCU will lose at least once this year. They've got an excellent Air Force team on their schedule and also have to play @ Utah.

I don't know. I think Utah is the only team left that can realistically beat them. Air Force was stout against OU but I think TCU runs through them like a hot knife through butter.

If there's a year to beat TCU, this would be it. The thing that's been stopping us this season (and cost us a win at Tech) is silly mistakes. If we can cut down on those, I believe this game will be ours.
However, yes, if we win, TCU fans will undoubtedly blame the short week, playing on a Friday night, anything like that.

I am sure hoping for a win But I think it is much more likely to happen next year or the year after as our skill position guys become upperclassmen. I think it is setting up nicely for use to have an experienced team against inexperienced teams in 2011 and 2012.
Beat TCU....Pony UP

Not at all confident that SMU can beat TCU this year, next year at TCU will certainly be more competitive and in future years it should return to a solid rivalry game that SMU dominated for decades. The way it was meant to be.

I don't care about any of that. If you actually read what I said, I'm referring to how SMU is playing this year.
