Flyover Set For Friday's SMU-TCU Game; Henry Kapono To Sing National Anthem
Yard Signs, Stickers & Other Items Available For Pick-Up On Wednesday, 2-5p.m.
Sept. 21, 2010
DALLAS (SMU) - Mustang fans coming to Friday's SMU-TCU football game will want to be in their seats early and keep their eyes on the skies, as pregame activities leading up to the 7 p.m. kickoff at Ford Stadium will include a flyover of four U.S. Air Force T-38s.
The pregame will also include a performance of the National Anthem by Hawaiian music superstar Henry Kapono, who many Mustang fans will remember as the halftime performer at the 2009 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.
SMU is calling for a "RED OUT", and fans are asked to wear red to show support for the Mustangs.
Tickets are going fast and a sell-out is expected, so fans should call the SMU Ticket Office at 214-SMU-GAME to get tickets today.
To promote the game, SMU is distributing yard signs, window clings and other items. Fans can stop by the Loyd All-Sports Center on Wednesday from 2-5 p.m. to pick up the promotional materials.

Awesome! Good to see the Flyovers are happening for our games these days! As soon as I get back to a stateside assignment I plan on supporting one of those as a USAF pilot and SMU Alumni, but for now its the skies of Japan.
Cheers,
Jetnfast

Not to be negative - but who pays for this?
Yes, it's really cool, but it doesn't seem like the athletic department or the government has a lot of extra money right now.

According to this
DMN Article, Tax payers do...
Military officials insist that flyovers don't cost taxpayers any additional money, because each flyover counts as a training flight and comes out of already existing training budgets and schedules.
"Baloney," said Winslow Wheeler, an analyst with the Center for Defense Information in Washington, D.C.
"It's atrocious training. They're flying from Point A to Point B. They're doing a couple of sort of low-altitude passes over the events and they go home. That's what pilots call 'converting gas to noise.' "

Flying down to Dallas and back is better training than flying circles around Wichita Falls.

Thanks Tycoon.
I figured they "hid" the cost in some sort of training flight budget or something.
I was really hoping SMU wasn't paying for it because that money could be put to much better use for advertising, travel, other sports, etc.
Now we can just sit back and enjoy the flyover!
