Good quick read.

I did not remember that Joe Pa had a loss in 82? Or is that an error. We had a tie. :?

If I remember right, Joe Pa and Penn State's only loss was to Alabama that year. We tied Arkansas in our last game of the year, otherwise had an unblemished season. But yes, we were the true national champs that year.

I am still getting use to this TCU being a rival stuff. When I was at SMU the game against TCU wasn't a rivalry at all. I guess because they were a bottom feeder in the conference. It was just a game we played until we got to Texas. Now that was THE rivalry game, Texas.

we really do need to get competitive before TCU takes too big a "margin" in this series. When you look at many of the great rivalries in college football, that 43-39 advantage tells you this has been (over the long haul) one of the more closely matched rivalries going. It doesn't seem that way because it has been so streaky

I was noticing the streakiness the other day. I looked at wikipedia and there are very few years where the skillet went back and forth several times.
