PonyFans.com's John Hampton weighs in again this week, and before looking ahead to TCU, he takes a look back at the Washington State game. Starters like Zach Line, Kyle Padron, the defensive front seven, etc., get a lot of attention, and deservedly so. But Hampton points out that one reason the Mustangs were able to close out the win against Washington State last week was because of the increased comfort the SMU coaches have in their backup players. Gone are the days when coaches had to hope that their starters not only played well, but also could play the full four quarters. With improved performances from the backups, the Mustangs are able to rotate fresh players in with decreased dropoff from years past, which also keeps the starters fresher and more effective in the late stages of the game.
