Pretty sure this would never happen, but it would be kind of cool if TCU vs. SMU became the regular Friday night matchup at the Cotton Bowl that corresponded with the opening day of the State Fair... Before we go any further, a confession: Originally I had planned to get all worked up about the fact that SMU and TCU agreed to play on Friday night, high school night, a clear violation of the separation of church schools and state religion. But then it came to my attention that Friday night games were an annual affair in the '60s and '70s as part of the State Fair "doubleheader." Far be it from me to trash a concept with Fair Park roots. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/092410dnsposherrington.27fda64.html

SMU used to play on Friday nights at the Cotton Bowl the night before the Texas-OU game.
Don't think that would work anymore to pair up SMU games with Texas-OU. Our students would go out partying with their UT and OU friends on Friday night. SMU is better off playing out of town whenever it's Texas-OU weekend.
As for Friday nights, the only time I think it works is when most HS teams are in their bye week - which was last weekend. Most area 4A and 5A schools start out in "Zero Week" (only the obtuse UIL starts a schedule with a zero) and play their three non-district games, then take the fourth weekend off.
This weekend, most everyone is starting district play and I bet we've lost some potential fans to high school games tonight. I know at least three members of my extended family, who are loyal SMU season ticket holders, will be at their kids' HS game tonight. Oh well.

I don't think attendance tonight is going to be a problem.

I agree. A sellout typically represents good attendance.

Still would be cool if the locals could make the game. HP has a home game.

I hope Ford is rocking so loud tonight that they will hear us over at HP's stadium.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Quick story. There is a dance at HP tonight after the game. My son, who is a freshman at HP, is attending that dance. I assumed he'd want to go to the HP game and walk over to the dance, so I gave his SMU game ticket away. When he found out this morning he said, "Dad, *everyone* is skipping the HP game to go to the SMU game!" That was a first. Guess we're moving up...

Funny, Dutch. That sounds like something I never would have tried myself...

You had me worried I had the wrong night and I was going to have 30 high schoolers at my house tonight ticked off that I forgot to be ready for the "pre-party"
