I was very impressed with SMU from what I saw last night, but the big picture is what I really think things look bright for yall. What I think is so encouraging for the Mustangs is that June Jones is truly building a program. In three years, Coach Jones has shown steady, consistent improvement. How often do you hear of teams that are one-hit wonders, but cannot sustain the success? Coach Jones, in addition to being what looks like a great CEO of the program, looked last night to have and X's and O's advantage over TCU. He uses great schemes for his players, and I think he will only continue to recruit better and better players. And I doubt it will be too long before he will succeed with the hardest job of all: changing the mentality of the players, coaches and fans to believe they can play with anybody... and win!
SMU hung for 2 1/2 quarters and played great ball. Depth might have been a big reason TCU was able to run away with it, but that will change with recruiting. There are only a handful of teams in the last few years to give us a good game to watch, and it was fun to see a back and forth game. I think we've got some great ball games ahead of us in the rivalry. I wouldn't be surprised if the battle for the skillet next year involves two ranked teams for the first time!
