Peruna Handler Alumni and Supporters

As some people know, there has been some controversy with Peruna and the idea of getting a "bigger, better" horse. Fortunately, the school administration has decided it is not the right time to make a decision like this.
However, this has inspired my fellow alumnus Peruna Handler, Chris, and I to start up an organization of alumni and supporters to help out Peruna and his handlers. The idea is similar to the Mustang Band's Diamond M Club.
Our first goal is to help awareness of Peruna, the tradition and history. After that we will set our sites on larger goals such as scholarships and more.
To get us started and to help get a list of Handler alumni, I have set up a Yahoo! group. If you are a strong supporter or especially if you are a former Handler, I encourage you to sign up on the peruna_handlers Yahoo! group.

Thank you,
Bob Sine

Great Idea!
I agree Peruna needs to stay just the way he has always been. :thumbupcool:
Traditions should not be tossed out the window like an old sweater because certain "new kids on the block" do not understand tradition and feel the need to "change for the sake of change".

Agree it is a good idea.
2 Comments:
1) While racing down the field last Saturday, I think Peruna or one of the handlers knocked down a TCU waterboy/trainer. Good Job.
2) The concrete monument to Peruna at the south-end of the stadium is not befitting of our school or our mascot. It should be bronzed.

It was actually an SMU trainer...who should know better than to get in the way of Peruna! GO MUSTANGS!

I partially disagree with the statement about bronzing the statue in the endzone. It, like the real Peruna has a history and I'm very much for preserving the legacy.
However, I do agree that Peruna should be better represented in statue form. I think there should be some kind of bronze statue on campus. Maybe this could be something suggested for the new entrance to campus on SMU Blvd. Personally, I'd like to see a statue of Peruna rearing up, showing how much more like a mustang he is than some saddled horse would ever be.

Ah yes, we SHOULD get a nice, happy, Peruna statue right at the entrance of campus. I should try and organize this as the Senior Class Gift this year. Oh I KNOW they'd love that!

The statue should be rearing up showing off peruna's huge oversized balls. Now THAT would be a good senior class gift!

Yes it would be nice if we had a beautiful rearing black Stallion statue or sculpture down at the south end of Ford stadium.
It would be great if you could see it from seats in the stadium, but also view it while driving down Mockingbird.
All the kids that play down at the south end would love it.
It would make a nice place to snap a picture for fans.
I wonder how much this would cost?....If we come up with a figure....we could start a fundraiser specifically for this one project....maybe take donations on the BLVD next year and make this happen!

if you are going to show his balls, you might as well show is other massive dangling part...funny story, we were jumping him over a barrell at the ranch where he stays one afternoon (just for some extra exercise). We had done it several times with him having no problem clearing the barrell whatsoever. Suddenly he caught the whif of a few phillies, (or saw them I forget which) and he started to get excited and act much more like the virile mustang he is. the next time we jumped him over the barrell there was this incredibly loud clang, it sounded exactly like the massive bells you hear at old cathedrals, you know the really hugh deep toned bells. Well, Peruna had no problem jumping over the barrell, he just had a problem clearing another portion of his anatomy. He may look smaller than a full size horse, but he has certain features that definitely are not.

I think it'd be cool to have a statue of Peruna running with his handlers. I'm sure Sine and Cauble would agree to use their likenesses as models for the handlers. :p

Hmmm...
We'll see. You raise the money for the Peruna statue and for full scholarships for all four (or five) handlers. Then, maybe I'll consider it.
