outlook for C-USA

I'm looking at Tulsa and couldn't help but notice that they have played two legitimate programs (ECU and OSU) and three patsies. Both ECU and OSU hung more than 50 pts. on the Tulsa D. So it looks like they have some issues there. Hopefully, we can do a similar number on them.

I was very critical of Southern Miss after watching the South Carolina game. That criticism was premature. I just watched a replay of their demolition of Marshall. Southern Miss is solid and getting better. IF things go the way I hope this year, I think we will face Southern Miss in the C-USA championship game. We'd better be ready.

There is no evidence yet that Houston has mailed it in, despite their unfortunate circumstances. Granted, the loss of the 1st and 2nd string QBs is devastating for any team. But UH has a ton of talent and the current QB, although very young, is highly regarded. If we get past Tulsa, I think the SMU/UH game is going to be a dandy.

I'm loving the Ponies. They appear to be quite a bit better than I thought they would be. The emergence of JG Davis on the D side and Zach Line on the O side were two factors I did not anticipate. We have a good team, and I for one am excited.

lets not forget or overlook UTEP, they're sitting at 4-1 now.

and they have done it without RB Donald Buchram who was out of the lineup again last nite.

They are the surprise of CUSA so far this season, and we have to travel to the Sun Bowl which is never an easy place to get a W.

Haven't they really just been beating schools that you might find on SMU's basketball schedule this year? I mean they beat Arkansas Pine Bluff...New Mexico and Memphis teams that are just woefully inept...and they lost to Case Keenum led Houston by 30 points. Oh, wait, they beat New Mexico State. Real powerhouses there.

Yeah, they're 4-1, and they play well at the Sun Bowl, but how good is this team really. They beat Memphis at home by a single FG.

I'd say that's about right. New Mexico had been giving up over 50 points a game. But Trevor Vittatatoe is playing well, Kris Adams is a pretty good receiver. If you add in Buchram who was All CUSA then you've got a formidable opponent in El Paso

Their 4 wins are Ark. Pine Bluff, Memphis, New Mexico and New Mexico State. Their one loss is to Houston. reasonably confident that if we had that schedule, we would be 4-1 as well. Their opponents in their four wins have a combined three wins between them, only one of which is against a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent. They lost to Houston by 30.

I am on record as saying that UTEP scares me, but that is because they are always tough at home. I don't see much in their schedule so far that makes me think they are appreciably better than last year.

Agreed. UTEP has beaten up on the patsies. Against the only legitimate program they've faced, UTEP got killed. I'm not going to say that going into their place and winning will be a cakewalk by any stretch. But right now I don't see UTEP in the same light as I do, say, Southern Miss. or UH. We'll have to see what they look like if/when Buckram is back. That guy lit us up last season.

One week at a time. We let Rice put up 31 points last weekend. This weekend we focus on Tulsa. And so on down the line.
