First off, the prevent defense is one of my biggest football irritations. If you're in a situation to use a prevent strategy like we were, then your defense was doing something right with their regular attack during the rest of the game. Why not just stick with what was working to stop the team that you're beating?

There is an old saying that the prevent defense will prevent you from winning.

keeps your guys on the line from getting too banged up late in the game, keeps the other team from moving the ball downfield w/ big passes, and most importantly forces them into running the ball thereby burning clock to end the game.

At that point, I got the impression that keeping guys from getting banged up was important.
