Great find.

Just another reason to stay put.

When the Big XII breaks up, there will be a lot of reshuffling and CUSA and the MWC may also have many changes. I would not be surprised for example to see TT and UTEP switch to the MWC and TCU to stay there. Then the four northern teams from the Big XII join CUSA, plus Baylor. Suddenly CUSA with Kansas, Mo. Memphis, Baylor, UAB, UH and Tulsa has a solid basketball package to offer and the rest of the conference would have pressure to step up. Each division only has one cross-over football game and perhaps at that point it would make sense to have a permanent crossover game. Put ISU and MO in the east with KU the crossover game for MO. USM and Tulane could renew their rivalry. And then we back fill. Or you just rotate and play every team in the other division every 8 years. Or you switch to four divisions.

We know that A&M and OU have offers from the SEC. So if/when the Big-12 blows up, it all depends on what Texas does. If UT goes indy, then its every man for himself. At that point, I see A&M and OU going to the SEC and Tech, OSU, and Baylor being left swinging in the breeze. If UT decides to join another conference, then Texas politics will come into play and they will likely have to take certain schools (see Tech) along.

UT won't start the conference shopping this time. They got everything they wanted and more. From this point on UT is going to play Defense and do whatever they need to do to keep the conference together. If OU leaves the whole house of cards could come crumbling down. If TT, Baylor, Missouri...etc. decided to leave UT would throw them a bone to get them to stay.

Can someone tell me why A&M is always mentioned with the SEC. I have never figured out the attraction. Are they trying to capture the Houston TV Market? Are they trying to open more inroads into Texas recruiting?

as much as ut and a&m hate each other i do think there is a certain amount of respect they have for one another.
my guess is that eventually ut will go indie and a&m will join the sec. it's a win-win. sec gets into the texas market and a&m gets away from ut. they are like a dysfunctional marriage of convenience. sooner or later they will part ways.

A&M is the most attractive target for the SEC (should it decide to expand) for a number of reasons:

1. A&M is in Texas. Texas is far and away the largest potential new market for the SEC for purposes of TV and recruiting. Getting a future SEC television channel on the air in Houston, Dallas, etc. would be a huge boost to its value. Some SEC schools already actively recruit Texas. I'm sure the others would love to have a crack at it.

2. The SEC has two options, look west or look east. To the east there are very few good options. With the exception of Virginia and North Carolina, the SEC already has a significant, if not dominant, position in every goegraphically-relevant market in the southeast. To the west there is Texas. Its a no-brainer.

3. This is IMO a distant third, but A&M would also provide the natural conference rival that Arkansas has been pining for these last 20 years.
