Probably because the band doesn't play it non-stop anymore for some stupid reason.

Love the review on No. 2.
In my times at the Cotton Bowl, I heckled them and screamed -- GET OFF THE FIELD!! YOU SUCK!
Actually, I was close enough one time for the 1991 game when I screamed and a couple of their band members heard me and flipped me off. That only made me turn it up even more.

If you have spent most of the last twenty years using up your overall won-lost record and driving the percentage below .500 no one gives a darn.

No, it drives fans from 20+ years ago nuts who remember it being played all the time while losing to good teams.
Now it's not played particularly often compared to many school's fight songs and it's been associated with sucking up until last year.

"The Eyes of Texas are upon you"? I thought they were saying, "I've been working on the railroad."

This is probably the reason the Thadsta' was so distracted during the Houston game at the Rose Bowl...

TO REPEAT...It is a CUSA and NCAA rule that you cannot play afte a team breaks the huddle...It is a 15 yard penalty.

That is only enforced against SMU without warning.

I'll look it up later, but I'm pretty sure the NCAA rule has nothing to do with the huddle. Seems like every time this comes up it is determined that bands cannot play in a way to interfere with players hearing the snap count. This is part of the reason it seems so arbitrary, it doesn't say you absolutely CANT play, just that you can't interfere. How do you fairly enforce that?

Here's the best I could find on iphone: from some blog
NCAA Rule 9-2-1(b)(6) provides that persons subject to the rules, including bands, shall not create any noise that prohibits a team from hearing its signals. Rule 1-1-6 dictates that public-address announcers, audio and video system operators, and other persons affiliated with the teams or institutions are subject to the rules.
And yes, I know the point was that they cannot play continuously, but we might as well be clear on the rules if we are going to throw them out there

I always thought that the band used to go into hush mode when we broke the huddle (so that plays could be called) and blast after the snap and just kept playing Peruna for an entire drive. That appears to be within the rule cited above. It might be a CUSA rule aimed at the Mustang Band.
