The last 6:53Beautiful!
That's how you finish it. You're QB methodically takes the team to a point where it runs out the clock. We converted 2 or 3 third down situations. Padron gutting it up to get 5 when we needed 4. Made the plays to win the game. We've gone from finding ways to win in 2009 to finishing in 2010. The maturation of SMU football continues. I'm enjoying it.
Re: The last 6:53Darn right. I'm thinking a win next week and we'll get a few votes in the AP.
Re: The last 6:53Agreed. It is comforting to see us run out the clock with a possession offense. Padron showed good leadership, especially on the scramble and dart up the middle for a key first down. A key play was the long incomplete pass to Aldrick Robinson. It helped to spread out the Tulsa defense and created a little more room for yardage on rush attempts and short completions. The drive demonstrated an intelligent and organized mission to win the game by gaining first downs and killing the clock. Go Pones.
Re: The last 6:53It was amazing that we ate up the first 4 minutes of that drive, and we had only moved about 22 yards. Great way to run out that game.
Re: The last 6:53I think this is another indication of how physical we are. I really believe that aspect of this team is underplayed. We just lined up and punched them in the mouth.
To me, it was the best offensive series of the night. Last edited by George S. Patton on Sun Oct 10, 2010 11:02 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: The last 6:53They were the real hero's, as after that last Tulsa drive and 2 point conversion, we were NOT going to deny them as they would have scored on us again, IF they got the ball back.
The last series was called well by JJ...the guys knew exactly what to do and where to be...Zach looked for his blocks and waited for them to develop. And when Tulsa had an all out blitz, Kyle knew where the seam would be to run for the first down. They did what they needed to win, whether its by 3 or 28 points, it don't matter. Re: The last 6:53I remember at the start of the drive I said it was time for the Offense to step up and win the game. I wish they had done it earlier but when it was their time the got it done.It was surprising however I was tinking tey needed to drive down and score but seeing they have the ability to control the clock is a great sign
Re: The last 6:53That drive certainly kept us in the stands until KP took that final knee.
Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.
Re: The last 6:53Flemming had a great and crucial catch and run. I think it may have been his only catch of the day. It is great when your role players step up like that at the end of game.

Re: The last 6:53I just wish my "Fighting Methodists" had the Ponies Field Goal Defense.
Two stinkin' weeks in a row is enough to just start feeling the effects of the ![]() I'm afraid USC can easily lose three or four more games while the Ponies finish with a better overall record. Who'd thunk? SMU - IT'S YOUR TURN

I knew you would love that drive George! It was good to meet you last night, be sure and bring the family by the Special Delivery camp at the next game. PONY UP!
Re: The last 6:53This is not the same Mustang team as two years ago where we flub it up and lose. We have players on the team that are winners and JJ has them believing they should win. Fans in the stand need to get the same attitude. Too many people sitting near me last night were not believing we would win and even stopped cheering until KP took the final knee. Wat to go Mustangs. That was a great win and the last drive was what winning teams do.
Re: The last 6:53A year ago, our O couldn't consistently pull this off. We were struggling to run out the clock and were forcing our surprising Defense to preserve games.
Imagine how our D players felt on that sideline watching the O control the game and clock! This is the kind of thing that builds team. The D took care of business and the O took care of business. Neither had to worry about the other not delivering. And we did it with a running game. Seems at one time we were all a tad concerned about the loss of a certain running back. Now, it appears we have a line and running back that can pick up the slack. This is the most impressive thing the O has done this year thus far. Run out nearly a half quarter of clock to seal a close victory. Supreme job done by the O last night.
Re: The last 6:53
Alex, enjoyed the visit and fellowship putting faces to names. If the kiddo athletic schedules are OK for the 23rd, we'll swing by before homecoming. I just got back from some activities and didn't read anything until now, but found it telling how Kate led her gamestory with that possession. The Jones quote is also interesting: "I told the guys before going out, if they want to be champions, this is what you've got to do," Jones said. "End the game right now. ... I was glad we were able to convert and keep the clock moving."
