How about we put 'NO one' back to field punts?

It couldn't hurt...just put NO one back there and deal with where the defense downs the ball or if it goes back into the end zone..then we don't have the risk of any more defensive TD's. DJ now has a phobia back there and don't think he will be mentally strong for the rest of the year. Its just another accident waiting to happen EVERY time the punt is kicked.....

How about a Special teams coach that teaches him to let it bounce into the friggin endzone.

I recall during the Pony Express days we had a similar problem. Everyone we put back to field a punt would fumble the catch. We kept changing return men and the replacement would fumble the catch. I know it was during the Dupard days because he was one that kept fumbling the kicks. We fans said the same thing then. It is a mental problem as much as anything else and we need to get DJ out of there for now because his mind is not right for catching the ball.

Oh you can be sure Dennis McKnight has drummed that into his head, believe me as Dennis is not stupid.....DJ just is not thinking well out there right now in punt situation....next season he will be mentally strong but this is something that will not go away if we continue to allow him to field punts the rest of the season...

not a bad point. The worst thing that could happen is the down the ball on the one. We had the good fortune of a) not coughing up a punt and b) having Tulsa downing that punt on the one...and instead of giving up a fumble recovered for a TD, we had a 99 yard TD drive

2 SportsCenter Top Ten 1-handed grabs, and 3 muffed punts. The mind is funny that way

That's whats amazing to me. The two one handed catches, plus the one he caught over the middle last night as he got sandwiched from both sides, yet he has trouble with a spiraling punt.

Hey guys its totally different...DJ has all that time to think all by himself while the ball is coming down and the mind can play tricks on you, especially when you have the yips, like it appears he has. The pass catching is more by instinct and requires no long term thoughts...just instincts. He is good at that specialty.

I think one of the real problems causing the muffed punts is the kid offten does not call for a fair catch when he should. I Know on the muffed punt this game he didn't wave and was woried about the hit. Earlier in the game he had t make a diving catch and got smeared on a ball that again should have been fair caught.

He still shouldn't ever go behind the 10 yeard line. What about Matt's punting. Is he hurt or is it in head as well?

There has to be someone on this team that can catch a punt without fumbling
and/or able to know when to call a "fair catch". I think we may be putting
too much emphasis on who can "take it to the house" after a catch, but hell
if we can't even make the catch who cares about who is the most shifty or fastest.
Put a sure handed Cole Beasley back there. This is going to cost us an important
ballgame. Why is it I have "Bennett Flashbacks" whenever we are back to receive punts?
