I'm tremendously encouraged by the fact that we can have an ugly game against a good team and still come away with a W. It's a bit of a backhanded compliment, but in years past, if we'd played a game like this, we would have gotten drilled. The Mustangs have truly come a long way in a short time.
UGLY
The refs. They SUCKED! On the roughing the passer call (it was either Thompson or Frazier) was very obviously putting on the breaks. When you're 300 lbs. and fast, you just can't stop on a dime. The call about Padron's knee was horrid. If you can't see the call, and that ref's view was blocked be the defenders, you don't make the call. It's reprehensible to make a call you don't actually see (especially when it's made so emphatically). The call against Padron was a drive-killer and could have cost us the game. I'm writing a letter to CUSA to that effect.
Padron was a little hit and miss with his throws, but at least he doesn't seem to be hanging on to it like he was earlier in the year. Great job in the pocket and on the run.
DJ's ability to call a fair catch
The DBs let Tulsa get by them way too often. Fortunately, Kinne likes throwing it out-of-bounds.
GOOD
The unbelievable fact that SMU is scoring more points off opponents' kicks than our opponents are. Has that ever happened in the history of football before???
Zack line
June's clock management
The "Bradley"... a 10-ish yard route to the far sideline that Padron connected on about 3 times. They could have had it five times if Haynes didn't let the first one go through his hands, and I think Padron must have been trying to hit a gopher on the other miss.
The defense limiting the #8 offense in the country to 18 points. That's about 140-ish yards and 3 TDs less than Tulsa's average.
Hunt and Grenier's blocks
Aldrick's improvement from when he showed up at SMU as a 1-demensional speed guy with questionable hands. He's the whole package now.
