In the final moments of SMU's victory over Tulsa Saturday at Gerald J. Ford. Stadium, junior offensive tackle J.T. Brooks lay flat on his back, surrounded by team trainers.

Minutes later, Brooks got up and hobbled off the field, aided by members of the SMU medical staff.

"It was my right ankle," said Brooks, who in the past has been bothered by a troublesome knee. "I guess that was a good thing for me."

The best news was the revelation that Brooks had suffered no broken bones and no damage to the ligaments in his ankle.

"(Running back) Zach (Line) kind of rolled into me," Brooks said, "so it was really the impact that hurt."

Brooks sat out of practice Tuesday, but he said his tender ankle will not keep him out of the starting lineup Saturday when the Mustangs take on Navy in Annapolis, Md.

"I'm going to try to practice tomorrow (Wednesday), or at least by Thursday," he said. "We'll see how it feels. Hopefully it won't hurt by then, but if I have to, I'll tape it up and go, anyway. I'll be good by Saturday."

Here's hoping Brooks can go, but if he is not ready who replaces him?

Bryan Collins has worked more this year at guard, I think, but he filled in for Brooks last year. I'm guessing he would get the nod.
