Regarding the Tulsa game,

Didn't SMU have about 5 possessions where it started either at or inside its 20?

Did SMU ever start a possession across its 40 or inside Tulsa territory? I can't remember one.

Our second TD was on a 99-yard drive, right? Second one of the year bc we did that to UAB.

Quoting ifs is really senseless but we won a football game last week where I don't think we caught any breaks on the field position.

That's probably what makes the win even that more impressive.

I think Tulsa not being able to complete quality scoring drives(two blocked kicks) and the ill-fated stupid call on 4th and a foot where they passed out of bounds after running the length of the field hurt them. On the other hand, SMU had some big plays and quality drives and didn't give up any points on offensive turnovers which helped our d. We did just enough and found a way to win! Nice to know we have the capability to win in different ways....running, passing, special teams and defense!

Tulsa missing 2 TD passes helped us as well.

I recall a game a few years ago. I believe it was Tulsa 2008, at Ford. Very late in the game we threw a pass to one of the Coles in the end zone. He was wide open. He dropped the ball. A catch would have meant a win. Also, 2008 Houston. A 5 yard out was dropped on the sideline that would have given us a first down and allowed us to run out the clock for the victory. I have waited for most if not all of the statute of limitations time and apparently we are not going to be awarded vicotries in those games or any others where we nay have dropped passes that should have been caught. So I think it us time to quit giving Tulsa the victory based on their missed connections.

How could I forget. We were sick to our stomachs on that play.

Also, was it 2008 or 2006 when Cougar High's Kevin Kolb completed that ridiculous 3rd and 19 at their 5 that led to a touchdown.

I totally agree with what you're saying. For too long, we were the team that didn't make the plays when it mattered to win games. And all of us came on this board grinding our teeth over that.
Now, we are. It's a great feeling.

All I was pointing out was the impressive part about the win was that we really didn't have opportunistic field position throughout the game, and we managed to find a way to get it done.
Says a lot about where the program is at -- regardless of how crappy some media pundits think CUSA is.
BTW, their acknowledgement of us negatively is actually a pretty good thing. When you're starting to win and beat their team in successive years, you have their attention.

I noticed a halftime stat that had our average field position I believe inside the 15 and theirs was the 47 ( I do not recall if it was ours or their 47). It is impressive that we overcame that, but we need to do a better job of flipping.

Youall have all made some great points. Many thanks. Field position is a major determinant in football. To win, when you don't play your best and with poor field position is very big. I remember several games when the Pony Express was available when we did not play particularly well but still won. Baylor, Grambling, Texas Tech. The Cotton Bowl game against Pitt. The score was 7-3 with about four or five minutes left and we had the ball deep in our territory. I knew if we did not make a few first downs. Pitt would finally put it together with Marino and put it in our end zone. The game ended with us in the four down zone and Pitt never got their hands on the ball.
