The NFL Network is slowly releasing its perception of the top 100 players of all time.

So far, they have released Nos. 31-100. Three Mustangs have made the list so far:

36. Raymond Berry
52. Eric Dickerson
54. Forrest Gregg

A) I'm shocked that Dickerson isn't the highest-ranked Mustang.
B) It's also pretty shocking that Dickerson (and if you ask me, Gregg and Berry), aren't ranked higher. Maybe it's because I got to see him play, but to me, Dickerson was far better than some of the others ranked ahead of him ... guys like Roger Staubach (I know — blasphemy around here), Tony Gonzalez, Mel Blount, Rod Woodson, Berry, Deion Sanders and Bruce Smith. I'm betting that when the remaining 30 spots are released, there will be some names there that should be behind Dickerson, too. His combination of size and power and speed made him a really breathtaking player to watch.

It's not SMU-related, but anyone who saw the interview tonight with Deion Sanders got more evidence of why he is among the most despised players in recent memory. He was ranked 34th on the list — which you would think would be considered an honor — yet when he was interviewed, he whined and complained like someone had stolen from him.

He insisted that he should be in the top 10 (apparently he doesn't remember his abject refusal to actually hit anyone), and then actually asked "how can I look my kids in the eye and say 'Daddy was No. 34?'" ... as if they would be ashamed that their old man had been (over)ranked as the 34th-best player in history.

What made it additionally nauseating was the fact that one of the interviewers was Rod Woodson — a rare player in his own right, and ranked 41st.

Three differences between Sanders and Woodson:
1. Woodson made the Pro Bowl at three positions: cornerback, safety and cornerback. Sanders made it at two.
2. Woodson actually tackled players.
3. Woodson has class — while Sanders was crying about his spot on the list, Woodson said he was grateful to be on the list, and it sounded genuine.

Sanders was a rare athlete — almost as good as he thought he was. Because of his incessant self-promotion, he earned a higher spot than he deserved on this list. But true to form, he doesn't appreciate the accolade in the slightest.

What a classless jerk. I'm impressed that Woodson didn't tell him to STFU. He had unbelievable physical gifts and the only ones he ever used were his speed and his ability to talk about himself. How anyone could ever cheer for that self-absorbed prima donna is beyond me.
