My suggestions for lowering your blood pressure

1. Don't worry about Gary Patterson. His antics, and decisions made in respect to them, are beyond our control. Some people, successful or not, are just not the "best in show" as far as personality. For what it is worth, one of our heroes and my 2nd father, Hayden Fry, had the absolute worst sideline demeanor I have ever witnessed. He constantly fired his assistants during the games. They just kept on coaching, he would rehire them and then later fire them again. Very loud and angry. Off the field he was one if the nicest and most caring people I have ever met.
2. Let's let the Houston game (95-21) fade into the past. Yes, we all know how despicable Pardee and Jenkins were that day. It is well documented and I will never forget their classless way of coaching. But we are on our way back. And as I have said for the past many years, we will know we are back when we are not described as "SMU, the only team to have received the death penalty" but rather "SMU Champions of CUSA", or even just "SMU" . Dwelling on these belly crawling low-lifes serves no purpose any longer other than reminding us of bad times in our history.
3. The geldings. Ah, the geldings. I hate them. I am Peruna all the way. I am ashamed to see them ride across the field with the Okie State cowboys waving their hats. But they are here and probably will be despite our rantings. The key is Peruna and that is where the fight must remain. My concern has always been, what happens when the current Peruna passes on to that pasture in the sky? Talk and assurance that Peruna will be replaced is cheap when the roles of the geldings have grown faster and beyond what was originally stated, so we will not know the truth until the actual time it occurs. I will simply put up with the geldings while they are here, but when the time comes for Peruna to be replaced by the understudy, I will be in front watching what happens.
So there. I am not telling anyone what to do, but rather just advising (which at my age I am allowed to do along with wearing black knee socks and sandals with my shorts) what I think would add a few years to the lives of those that seem to get a little over zealous at times on certain subjects. You do not have to agree with me. This is simply my little editorial while waiting for my company plane to get fueled and ready to take me to today's victory in Dallas.
