Let them score ?Don't get me wrong, I am so glad JJ and his Coaches are here. They are doing an excellent job here in all respects, but I was watching the SMU Climb show on CBS Sports this morning. I couldn't believe JJ told the D to let them score a TD with 2:00+ minutes to go in the game causing us to get down 28-21 at that point. Of course we did not go down and get the tying TD, after Navy scored, at the end of the game to force overtime. It seems to me the facts show we would of had a lot better chance to hold them to a field goal attempt. Sense Margus Hunt has blocked what about 13 field goal attempts or extra points in the last two years so for, our odds would have been a lot better at that point in the game to force overtime by keeping it a tie at 21-21.
Re: Let them score ?That probably would have been the plan if they had not had such a good run on first down to get them inside the five. I have no problem with the way SMU handled it, we had our backs against the wall either way and JJ wanted to let the offense have another chance.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: Let them score ?
We hadn't been really stopping them, the D was exhausted. This is what Navy lives for. The odds of stopping them was lower than the odds of scoring provided we had enough time. I'm fine with it. "I think Couchem is right."

Re: Let them score ?We had no choice. A totally stupid personal foul after the punt took the ball from the 22 back to the 12. Starting at the 22 was a good risk for our offense to get down into field goal range with roughly 1:58 on the clock. Starting at the 12 was a real questionable decision to pass and not run out the clock and take the game into overtime. Problem with trying to run out the clock was that Navy had all of their time outs ( as I recall) and would have stopped the clock to have a last crack at the ball and a possible field goal. We gambled and the interception was devastating. Navy hit us really big on their first run taking the ball just inside the 4. At that point there was 1:38 on the clock and Navy had all the cards to play. Navy could have taken the knee wasting our last time out then a second knee taking the clock down to less than a minute then a field goal giving us the ball with less than 40 seconds. Navy could have gone for the TD ( which we gave them ) using several plays and taking the clock way down. JJ did the only thing that could have been done under those condition. His plan actually had a chance if he had saved his second time out wherein he made the decision to let Navy score. With that time out and Robinson's absolute brain fart failing to step out of bounds at mid field with 55 second left on the clock, we would have had a first down at the Navy 20 with roughly 20 second still on the board. The gamble could have paid off.
