why is JJ so unaggressive?

Postby Hoop Fan » Sat Oct 23, 2010 4:11 pm

why kick a 45 year field goal when you have 4th and 1 at the 28? Is there ever a better time to go for it? totally set the tone for the game with that. gotta outscore Houston and Navy type programs and we are giving away possessions left and right.

Let's see, we have a chance to take a commanding lead in the west division, it's homecoming, we have all our stud recruits in for the game, and we come out flat and unprepared on defense for the hurry up offense that tech, rice, and navy used last week in the second half to kick our [deleted]........And we try a stinking field goal instead of going for it on fourth and one with a running game that is clicking.......Let's hope June uses the delay to make some adjustments and get us ready to retake control of the game.............

not a good start. didnt even go for it on the first drive downfield at all.
Houston could have had 6 pts on the 1st play if Cleveland didnt' score.

Would anyone be doubting if Matt had hit what's a very makeable field goal for him? It's a bit early in the game.

well, that made it worse for sure, but no, i hated it before the kick was missed. 45 yards is makeable, but no gimme by any means either. Do our coaches really not think we can make a yard with all that field to work with? I have more confidence in this offense than JJ i guess.

Not sure what he was thinking, he is always talking about punching it in on every drive but he doesn't coach that way. If he isn't more aggressive on the plus side of the field then we'll lose today.

JJ is not very agressive and I have second guessed many of his calls where he didn't go for it but IMO he has been right EVERY SINGLE TIME. I didn't agree with this call either so I guess we will see if he continues to make the right calls.

The reason the 46-yarder was missed is because of another of JJ's stubborn decisions. With a strong wind blowing out of the north, he decides to take the ball and give Houston the wind.

JJ always wants the ball to start the game, no matter the conditions. The field goal wasn't shanked - the wind blew it off course.

Of course, if SMU had driven for a touchdown, the wind factor is a non-issue. But if you're going to play that conservatively and pass up a great opportunity on fourth-and-one, then play defense to start the game and get the wind behind your back.

Didn't we take the ball into the wind two years ago at Navy, when the rain was blowing horizontally?

we also gave TCU the ball AND the wind to start the second half. I was floored. Ended up meaning a short kickoff and return for touchdown that killed us.
