Zero Depth HurtsWhat did you expect? Everyone knew we were paper thin. Sterling gone, D is toast.
I don't know what to say about the O though. Is it Padron? "I think Couchem is right."

Re: Zero Depth HurtsWe are not that thin. People on this board do not want to pile on the team.
The team was flat, the coaching was flat Houston was sharp. We have the players to win every game on the schedule this year... minus one. The other come down to execution. Tonight, sad to say, we were... executed ![]() ![]() ![]() Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
Re: Zero Depth HurtsI think Couchem is right. Our first 2 recruiting classes are affecting us. We recruited about 7 offensive lineman in one class and not one of them is seeing the field on offense(did not recruit any true DT's in that class either). I would go on but I won't.

Re: Zero Depth Hurts
Padron holding the ball all day isn't helping but the recievers seem to really struggle getting separation, every time Kyle does get the ball to them there's always a defender around and our guys go down so easily. I suspect this is why we can't get anything done over the middle. This WR corps just isn't that talented. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: Zero Depth HurtsAgree.
We have the talent to win at least 3 games. A win in New Orleans next week should be the focus. Regarding the "thin" issue, it may be that we really don't sub that much and others aren't getting the reps. Granted, we haven't been in enough spots during games this year to sub a lot. But still, find some game time for the backups.
Re: Zero Depth Hurts
We whiffed a lot on DBs in those 1st 2 classes, I think a few never made it a few were academic casualities and the others just suck. The 1st 2 classes were both OL heavy, of the ones that are left McJunkin and Emshoff have played and Emshoff looked like crap last week. Re: Zero Depth HurtsOur corners are horrible. If we don't get Moore back we're in trouble. We gave up way too many big plays on 3rd and very long.
Re: Zero Depth HurtsWhy does the board have a hard time with holding Kyle accountable for his mistakes. It seems that every week Padron gets a pass, while you blame the defense, O-line or WR's...everybody but Padron. The past two weeks, Kyle has 3 interceptions and 2 fumbles. He holds on to the ball too long, and when he does pass, he overthrows the receivers, throws it behind them so much so that they are having to make acrobatic catches that they can't do anything with after the catch. Because he holds on to the ball so long, by the time he does throw the ball, the defense has had time to adjust to the play. OMG...can he just go through the reads and find the open receiver sometime! How many times does Kyle come out of the pocket looking one way, with a predetermined receiver in mind. That drives me crazy. Let's face, Padron is NOT getting better and he has to bear some of the blame and IMO, alot of it. The WR's are very talented, we just need a QB that can get them the ball quicker and with more accuracy.
Re: Zero Depth HurtsPadron is the best we have for right now though it's obvious he is having trouble digesting the full R&S and it's causing him to overthink everything and press. Time for JJ to break out the R&S Light he used last year to break Padron in because we don't have any more games to waste. Our defense is looking bad and the offense needs to start scoring and sustaining drives to give them a break.

Re: Zero Depth HurtsPadron is certainly struggling, but we are having issues with making plays at WR. How many long catch and runs did McNeal and Sanders have last year? That is something missing on offence. Padron is staying with his deep receivers and first options too long and the WR aren't making plays on the run. I would say those are the major issues right now with the consistancy on offense.
Re: Zero Depth Hurts
We lived off those 2 making big plays, Sanders never gave up on routes and could always be counted on to go over the middle. I always loved it when JJ would roll Padron out and have him find McNeal out on the edge or on a screen and let him go make plays. Do we not have any back that can catch the ball? Re: Zero Depth HurtsI said in another post that he tends to lock on to his primary wr target from the snap.

Re: Zero Depth HurtsAt what point during JJ's time at SMU will "lack of depth" no longer be an excuse - year 4, 5, 6? This has been an excuse for the past 20 years.

Re: Zero Depth HurtsWe better recruit some more CBs this year. With CB Sterling Moore already gone this year, you can see SMU is in deep trouble already. Depth ???...No Depth....Without Sterling Moore we are a 6-5 team this year at best.
