The worst performance I've seen out of SMU in years.

Postby Texasscout96 » Sun Oct 24, 2010 1:25 am

Wow!

The coaching was terrible!
The play calling was terrible!
The defensive formations were terrible!
The defenders were out of position constantly!
The offensive line couldn't block the UH blitz once!
Padron kept lofting the ball up for the UH defenders to go get!
The special teams was horrendous! (allowed a KO TD, dropped a punt and had one punt return where Thomas got hit while trying to make the catch!

This effort was truly embarrassing. And on top of all that, David Piland was a true freshman, 3rd string QB! Even the UH fans were nervous we were going to smear them.

If SMU were the Dallas Cowboys, there would be some pinkslips in lockers tonight my friends. This was simply atrocious. If SMU can't play better than today, there is NO way we are even coming close to a Conference USA championship.

Oh and one other embarrassment...there were some MAJOR recruits on campus to witness that effort. You'd think the players would be a little more cognisant of what was on the line today... Guess not.

June Jones had better get things together FAST.

No doubt about it. This was a hard game to watch. The D seemed totally unprepared. The O never got its act together. And special teams were special if one was a UH fan.

UH did come prepared. Often when Line got the ball, UH had fire stunts on and it was very effective. UH called blitzes at the correct time.

UH figured out how to attack our aggressive outside backers and really took advantage of their out of position play.

Yes we didn't look to be in this game but UH was very prepared and played very well. That also made us look bad.

And personal fouls were just too by our players after the whistle. Stupid and they hurt.

Hopefully this will be a wake up call for this young team and they will concentrate and increase their intensity for next week.

Nothing we can do about it but a week break right now would be excellent. I am wondering if we have some beat up walking wounded that could use a week to recover.

100% coaching. How disappointing.

I started to question this teams will and heart, in the second half of the Navy game. Yesterday, was the first time I have been embarrassed by a June Jones team. Houston clearly wanted this game more, and just kicked our butt in EVERY phase of the game. Starting with the Rice game, Houston had so many injuries on their d-line depth chart, they were forced to use a two down lineman front. That front consisted of using walkons, and freshmen. Besides the blocked kicks earlier in the year, and Fields efforts on returns, our special teams have had meltdowns in every game this year. This team has a lot of soul searching to do, and maybe a cardiologist visit. PONY FLATLINE?

Something behind the scenes might be going on. Coach Jones was more frustrated at lunch this week than I have seen maybe ever. You can see my McKnight's reaction on the sideline that the other coaches are frustrated as well. The team in general is going through a rough time right now for whatever reason.

I still think the reality is that we are not athletic in the secondary and are short a couple of players at WR. That gets you killed against a team like Houston. We will have a chance to win in each of the remaining games this season.

Could the performance have been affected by the pathetic fan support? It must be so disheatening as a coach and especially the players to go to their first bowl game in years and then have close losses to the number 4 ranked team in the country(about to be the 2nd or 3rd) and a close loss in Lubbock and a close loss to a Navy team that just destroyed Notre Dame on a neutral field and then to have such a pathetic showing of fans at Ford for it's home games this year! Weather? This is football! Excuses, excuses, excuses.

smuth, i also think the empty stadium was a huge issue for our guys. it was the creepiest game i have ever seen. It is football, but the rain wasnt the problem, it was the 3 hour delay and uncertainty that completely killed the crowd. and yes, smu fans are soft. i think the weather really worked against us yesterday.

It's not the people on this board who are the problem, but there is no question that SMU's pathetic fan base has to step up if we are ever going to be deserving of a Top 25 program. How may of your fellow alums support this program?

These coaches have a challenge convincing better players to come here and be a part of this...our showing yesterday reminds us that SMU (from a fan support standpoint) belongs in the SLC

Pretty funny to end the post saying there are no excuses for fans as you make an excuse for the team itself.

and we should all remember that we are only 2 years removed from asking ourselves at this stage of the season "is is basketball season yet?"

I have to completely agree with the above posts. We did not seem to be prepared. We were obviously outcoached etc. Guess we can use today to exorcise our frustration and then we need to move on.
I think in the off season there should be some coaching changes. I wonder if JJ could get Jerry 'the man in black' Glanville to come to the hilltop. Our D isn't that bad but we need some fire.
Special teams really misses Coach FG. I wonder how involved JJ is in working with KP or if Morrison is the primary QB analyst. KP is just not making progress. Our receivers do not seem to be getting separation. Are we really that slow or is it a lack of desire and intensity?

I guess after last year our expectations have risen beyond our capabilities.

GO PONIES!!!

again...it's no coincidence that we played with "intensity" against TCU...when Ford was packed and rockin'

yesterday's game had all the intensity of a scrimmage

we apparently sold 20000 tickets. It would have been a good atmosphere if the weather was decent. it probably would have been ok if it just rained and no delay. the 3 hour delay was the real problem. dont get me wrong, i was there in the fourth quarter, and there should have been more people there no matter what, but its also hard to blame people.

The team is going through a rough time right now because they are more worried about being "suppastars" on The Climb...just play ball, fellas!!!

These guys needed to get a wake up call weeks ago. That game was terrible. I don't see much happening for the rest of the season. Very disappointing.
