Question to the "prime seating" season ticket holders ...

Postby Texasscout96 » Sun Oct 24, 2010 3:59 am

As I was a "prime seating" season ticket holder last year, I know how Orsini changed the rules about those season tickets and required at least a $500 Mustang Club donation to sit in the 100's sections.

I was wondering how all of you felt about today's Mustangs performance.

I paid $24.00 to watch that horrible performance and I left Ford field today nauseous. (And I even left at the start of the 4th quarter) I can't even imagine how I would have felt if I had paid $115.00 to watch that.

It remains clear to me that Orsini blew it by changing the rules on season tickets expecting SMU fans to pay ridiculous prices for those seats. The evidence.... the stadium is either empty or full of the opponent's fans. Case in point... the TCU game was VERY purple and today was full of obnoxious UH fans yelling incorrect calls and basically never shutting up in one way or another.

I just wanted to get you all thinking about what this 2010 season has really meant thus far. For me, the intended plan has not been fulfilled. Hmmm, kinda reminds you of another Dallas team that had big plans but can't seem to deliver, doesn't it?

Well at least we have the Rangers, right?

Wrong - completely, other than the Rangers part.

It takes money to be competitive.

We didn't look good yesterday. Overall, we are a lot better than three years ago and are still going in the right direction.

Exactly.

Certainly, we are moving in the right direction and that is obvious.

But yesterday can lead one to think of the negatives and question much of what and who is responsible. If, and it is uncertain, we can get to 7 wins and a bowl game, THAT is a success.

IMO, Orsini's plan is solid and the norm for competitive programs.

right now, this program is not where it wants to be, so if you are worried about "value" when you pay for a great seat location...just buy your tickets on the visitor's side and you can sit between the 40's at a minimal cost.

If you want to support the program and be a part of the turnaround, pony up and pay to sit among SMU's most loyal fans.

Let's look forward to the day we regularly put 30k into Ford on gameday and 20k or so will stick it out thru the kind of conditions we saw yesterday. I think the team's play mirrored the apathy of the majority of our fans...just couldn't get it going yesterday. Bad karma

How many of us thought perhaps the year after our first bowl win, in a game where we were undefeated in conference and with a chance to all but put away the conference division title, we'd already be there? Remember the comments during JJ's first year? "Oh, when this thing gets going...when the w's start coming...this place is going to get turned out"...

You'd think we'd have sold more than 20,741 tickets for certain.

Oh, and regardless of the attendance...IMO, that's still not an excuse for laying a turd on the field

what a ridiculous post. yes, the loss s u c k ed. I'd much rather attend a SMU game for free which you should be able to find easily -- than a Cowboy game paying $250 bucks. A season ticket for $72 is pretty good for a game you can sit just about anywhere other than the suites.

And the TCU game was a lot more SMU fans. The loss was embarrassing but we haven't gotten our @ss whopped like that in a while. I guess you don't like a bowl team b/c we will be in a bowl. I guess you forget we were 0-1 wins a couple of years ago.

I have NO problem with the cost of our seats, donation, or blvd.
Now if you want to talk about loss vs $$$ spent . "Navy"

The cost of the seats didn't go up, but the donation to make the program better did. I have no problem with that at all. I've had to make some kind of Mustang Club donation for 3-4 years now, and have started to see a return on my investment.

Sure, yesterday sucked. Probably one of the most frustrating games I have been to at Ford in my 10 years as a STH. But why did it suck? Because we could have won that game had we played like I know we were capable of. 4 years ago, I would have left a game like this thinking "well, at least we scored" and not been surprised.

Go back and look at the beginning of the year predictions of most fans & columnists, and we have won & lost the exact games they predicted thus far. You also have to think about it this way - we still only need 2 more wins to be bowl eligible, and 3 to really solidify our chances. We have only been able to say that in maybe 3 seasons of the last 25?

No doubt we absolutely, positively need some help in the secondary. We have to rely far too much on our very talented, but mostly young, corps of linebackers. We needed Sterling Moore, plus 2 more guys that are about 75% the player that he and Chris Banjo are to have a shut down defense. If you can't see the step change in the level of athletes we are bringing in, you are terribly blind.

Why pick on the Ponies? Just ask those premium seat holders in Austin? A multilple of our ticket costs, the pick of the players in the state, and they can't beat the doormat of the Big 12?

Ive been a season ticket holder in section 105 since Ford Stadium opened. I enjoy my seats. I also enjoy the tax write off that comes with this. I intend to keep my seats for the forseeable future.

You made the choice to bail out on the new plan. So if you're comfortable with what you did, good for you.

I'm very pleased with where I am at and glad to contribute to a program that continues on this journey.

Pretty gutless by the author of this thread to suggest this.

Just scattershooting on this one......It seems to me by watching highlights of a couple of other games that were delayed by rain or played in rain that the fan base for these teams stayed the course and provided much needed support to the home team. They were top 25 programs so I imagine that along with this distinction comes a more loyal and supportive fan base. That makes sense. However, applying that to our season, it seems like luck played a part in the less than emotional performance of the Mustangs both this week and against Tulsa (offense). Tulsa game was without the student section because of fall break. Bad timing for a home game. The energy the kids felt at TCU was not there at all. We had a decent crowd show up but they were pretty quiet. After a hard fought loss to Navy, the kids came back expecting another exciting well supported homecoming game and the same energy or something similar that was at the TCU game. Instead, we got a deluge and only 3000 people hung around which included about 50 in the student section. Perhaps this played a part in the flatness the kids displayed throughout the night. To say they did not notice this would be ludicrous. Not an excuse really, athletes have to perform for each other and school without regard to support, but the performance of the endocrine system and the relationship to environment is undeniable. Marshall is going to be a very important game for us. WE need to make sure that all of us show up and create an exciting environment to help these young men overachieve. WE are asking them to overachieve right now. Lets do our part!! Go Mustangs!!

anyone who has ever played knows how important a strong home crowd can be...can help you find that little bit of extra energy when needed

our lack of fan support is just one part of the equation...Houston is STILL the defending Western Division champs until someone shows they can step up and unseat them. They have talent and a pretty good looking 3rd string QB

Wow... Everyone just keep wearing your rose colored glasses. I am honestly happy that you all are so dedicated to pay whatever Orsini asks.

I watch games like yesterday and I am not as dedicated in my beliefs. But then I'm not real tolerant of losing in every aspect of football.

I didn't want to start an argument. I was just curious about what you all thought. I guess I honestly knew what you would say now that I think about it.

You could jump on the TCU bandwagon and sit on the 50 for a $5000.00 donation plus seats.

Texasscout96: you'd have to go back to our return from the death penalty and those who purchased "Cornerstone" packages to appreciate a "bad investment" in SMU football.

Again, if you are not a hardcore supporter of the program, you can attend any game you'd like and sit in a quality seat without helping out beyond that...I don't buy season tickets because I rarely get to Dallas to attend games, but when I do come, it's nice to be able to sit at midfield on the visitors side.

I wish we had several thousand fans who may be unwilling to join the Mustang Club, but willing enough to buy a ticket and attend our games.

If you are a hardcore supporter, you really don't look at the cost of your seats as an investment or worry about the "value" of what you've bought.
